Journeyman (there's another) footballer that knows/knew his place. Mainly played for Charlton. You know how most pro footballers tend to lose themselves in self-importance regardless of the level they're playing at? Well this guy's the antithesis.

Didn't he have to retire through injury?

No. He wrote the book, well he wrote the book that I'm on about 'Left Foot Forward' in diary form when he was going into the last year of his Charlton contract when he was about 35, I think. He then went on to be player/coach (or somesuch) with either Torquay or Southend where he wrote a similar book which I haven't got round to reading yet.
