I was there! In fact I was lucky enough to attend every England game (with the exception of Spain) in that tournament.Leyther_Matt wrote:Funnily enough, one of my least favourite games! Now that was a game - wish I'd been there! Also has my fave England goal in it if you're interested. Needs no introduction.

That Liverpool-West Ham game was a cracker, even funnier for the fact that I'd previously planned on watching Hearts-Gretna instead and my mate reckoned I should have switched to BBC Scotland after 10 minutes of 'the worst Cup Final ever' - poor judgement doesn't begin to describe it!
So, from memory, that was Switzerland, Scotland, Holland and Germany. Great games.
God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?
COME ON YOU WHITES!!

My favourite 'other' game, one that I attended, was on 19/04/76 (Isn't t'interweb a most wonderful thing? Just how did we manage without it?). Anyway, I went to Maine Road to see Man City play Liverpool. Now then, to this particular nine year old, this was a meeting of legends that only ever really existed on TV. Man City included the likes of Bell, Tueart, Marsh, Lee, Summerbee etc. against a Liverpool side that included Toshack, Neal, Highway, Hughes, Callaghan, Case, Clements and so on. All absolute footballing Gods. I was stood on the Kippax, and for the entire first half didn't see a single thing. Course, at half-time, all the City supporters moved down towards the Platt Lane end, the end into which City would be kicking in the Second half. This then afforded me an absolutely uncluttered view of Liverpool then ripping City a new arsehole in the second half. A half in which Steve Highway volleyed home the first, and then 'Supersub' David Fairclough came on to rattle another two past the most over-rated 'keeper in the history of the game, Joe Corrigan. What a floundering mess that bloke was.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Legend of Greyshirt? That was 6-3 wa'n't it?officer_dibble wrote:Soton 6 - 1 Scum was a classic
Speaking of that lot, the two Big Cup 3-3s they shared with a Rivaldo-led Barcelona were fine games

The 'grey shirt' game was 3-1 I think (95/96 season when they did us 6-0?) with the 6-3 game being a season later?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Legend of Greyshirt? That was 6-3 wa'n't it?officer_dibble wrote:Soton 6 - 1 Scum was a classic

It was 3-1 at half time, 6-3 being the eventual scoreLeyther_Matt wrote:The 'grey shirt' game was 3-1 I think (95/96 season when they did us 6-0?) with the 6-3 game being a season later?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Legend of Greyshirt?
