If any of you fancy a top quality Chinese (no really, I mean it) then you may wish to try the Tung Fong in Worsley (a favourite of Svens when he used to stay at The Marriot). More expensive than most but you soon come to realise why.

Food at the Tung Fong is good (I don't live too far from it). Only comment is around the reservations process - they tend to allocate places in two "shifts" so if you're on an early one they can look to get you outta the seat occasionally...Other reasonable ones around and about are Puccini's - which strangely enough isn't Chinese (oft used by the Red Shite en masse, England FC and England Cricket team when they're at the Marriott) and Milan (again not Chinese ) which is owned/co-owned by Giggs...

I like the Tung Fong but the Yang Sing is my favourite. For Italian/English then Isis (Chef ex Puccini's) on Bolton Road A666 is as good as it gets around the Salford/Swinton/Worsley area - reasonably priced and never left unsatisfied. However, Milan is over priced and although I've only been twice I've been disappointed with the service on both occasions

To be fair the only time I ever went was when Nigeria played Spain in the 94 World Cup in America, so I was 11.

If you look at my original post you'll see I've corrected the location Doc. (Palace theatre is further up Oxford Road) If you stand with your back to the Opera House there's a street directly opposite. Go down that to the first entry then look left. El Rincon is in the corner (El Rincon is Spanish for "The Corner", and its full title is "El Rincon de Rafa", Raphael being the owner. Just some more useless info for you. ) Whatever, it's my favourite restaurant of them all.

Milan has gone shockingly down hill after the head chef was poached -Boom boom, by The Lowry hotel.

Another good un in and around the Worlsey area is the Greyhound in Boothstown, I had Ostrich Thai curry at the weekend, it really was superb!!

Rafa, the owner there has a great sense of humour. Once, when complimenting him on the Salpicon (sort of a mixed seafood dish of allsorts, squid, prawns etc, he grinned and said "Caught em all myself just this morning" Thinking of the waterways in that area made it all the more funny. Once ordered "Chuletas" there; small lamb chops beautifully grilled. When the plate arrived there were nine of them. Magic.

I go into El Rincon most fridays for a jar, cruz campo on draught is quality! I fell out with it a bit though when i had just ordered at the bar when half a dozen faces from coronation street walked in, the barman gave the pint he was pouring for me to steve mcdonald! - the nice person!

Love da Tapa's though - went to a few in Mijas a couple of weeks back, also went to one in benalmadna which was good. they do seem to be popping up all over nowadays, didnt know about that one opposite ikon though - shall check it out!

A good one i reccomend is Tapio's on Heywood Road, near Middleton, if your ever unfortunate enough to be in middleton!

Aye, biggest problem with any decent place, especially in Mancville, you only need it to get out that some Big Brother reject goes there and the place will be full of gawkers and groupies in no time. Sad.

The chef who left Puccini's to set up Isis is no longer there. He has opened a takeaway called Nico's on Memorial Road in Wagdin....Yang Sing/Little Yang Sing work for me too..Milan can be inconsistent in terms of quality...some days it's excellent occasionally it's a bag o spanners

For those after some chinese, there are some belters in Liverpool (given that we've got the oldest established 'chinatown' in the UK or something). Great range of restaurants down there where you really can't go wrong.

Blurred - There's quite a good Chinese down Rice Lane if you're ever over Walton way. Princess Garden, I think. Well, it was quite good a few years ago anyway.

Went to one supposedly genuine Chinese eating place in Liverpool once. Looked like a scene from Oliver Twist inside and the food was like eating string out of a bowl of gruel. Probably the worst meal I ever had in a restaurant. The old "Seven Up" wasn't bad though.

There are a few wrong'uns, that's for sure, but then that's always the lottery of eating out. I've not been to a bad one in Chinatown, mind, and have a couple I'd recommend there.

Tapas is lovely, though I've only just got into it the last 6 months or so. There's a place in Sheffield that I tend to frequent, La Viña, which is quite delicious. I'm not sure if it's a chain or not. I should try La Tasca sometime soon too.

Ah! Eating out (al fresco) where the petrol and deisel fumes add to the attraction of bird poo and where the possums, lusting over the thought of any bit of fruit that might be on offer, are on regular stand-by. Spiders big and small weave their stickiness over the mouths of those who are loath to speak and the snags are lumps of charcoal; balmy evenings when most of the guests are barmy and quiet times when most of the guests are not; the stars, their concentrated light suddenly being converted into a forked tongue of more terrestrial origin and licking mother earth whilst Thor speaks severely to those who dare trespass on his territory. Mosquitoes, midges and mites which, uninvited, crash the party bringing mayhem to and mighty mutterings from the assembled multitude.

With all due respect to those who know - what's a 'tapas'? The only dish I know of that name is a footballer sitting in a restaurant eagerly awaiting a response to his earlier statement to the management 'tapas up?'

If I were in such a situation I'd demand meat and three veg every evening and 10K a week.

tapas - is a style of eating rather than a dish itself. It's spanish of origin, and involves taking 3 or 4 small dishes rather than one big plateful. One dish might be fish, another meat, another veg etc.

Tis a chain - there is one on Deansgate, Manchester. Not tried myself tho.
