What's the ultimate sandwich?
Everyone loves a decent butty. But what's the best filling?
Me, I'd have a cheese salad barm with salad cream. Nice and simple and tasty. (Just like me

BLT is definitely up there. Malted bread, smoked bacon, not too much tomato and a decent quality mayo. Yes please.
I suppose bruschetta just about qualifies as a sandwich if you count the open topped variety. Lightly toasted Italian bread, rubbed with a clove of garlic, drizzled with olive oil and then topped with my home grown tomatoes and basil. A glass of red wine with that and supper’s sorted.
Sometimes it depends where you are. I spent a year between school and college labouring in a textile mill. The bosses weren’t around on Saturday morning when we were doing overtime, so we’d send out for bacon on toast from the café around the corner and have a leisurely half hour break with a cup of strong tea and a sarnie. That memory ties in nicely with Saturday’s game, for it was at that time that Bolton did the double over Man Utd. After the 2-1 win at Old Trafford with Frank Worthington scoring both goals, I arrived at work to find the place decked out in bunting.
How about Mozzarella and green pesto? It doesn’t sound too great on a cold, wet November day in England but in the June sunshine of New York in 2000 it was just the ticket.
Then again, when it comes to sandwich matters, can anything beat a good chip butty?

CH, I've been thinking about that MacDonalds pizza far too much... I really do fear I will be trying out sooner rather than later.CrazyHorse wrote:Good shout!enfieldwhite wrote:Of course you can't beat the good old Carr's Pastie barm.

I'm doing a Commie at the moment and working on my conditioning (for boring Oxford-bashing golf-related reasons), which might explain why I am craving this filth!

Aye, in fact there's the ultimate sandwich right there - the MacDonalds pizza between two slices of bread.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:CH, I've been thinking about that MacDonalds pizza far too much... Throw in a bit of Nando's chicken and you're there!

This thread is slightly nauseating in parts.
personally I love many sandwiches (smoked salmon or trout on brown bread, ham and swiss, turkey or chicken club) - which one depends on the weather and the whether I'm hungry or just peckish.
