When I lived through one at about 4.00 am I woke up standing next to the bedroom window which was rattling. I must have jumped out of bed to check things before my conscious mind took over. I was a bit puzzled to wake up standing up. Of course I have no cane furniture for advance warning. I didn't realize you had quakes in England, tbh.TANGODANCER wrote:Twas about one-o'clock and I was lying there in the dark dozing, when it felt like someone had sat down on the bed and then the cane drawer chest at the end of the bed started rattling. Gave me a bit of a jar, enough to make me leap out of bed and wonder what the hell was going on. Didn't know till this morning it was an earthquake, but thankfully I'm calling off the exorcism.

Well, like SKD, I was browsing TW at 1.00am, but I felt nothing down here in Cambridge.

Despite being woken 3 times in the night by a hungry baby I managed to sleep through the exciting event. Therefore proving that my maternal instinct is so finely tuned that I can sleep through an earthquake but not my daughter's cries.
Now knowing that she won't stir when the earth shakes I won't be creeping round shushing at everything whilst she's asleep during the night.

Think you're right too - best get 'em used to ambient noise - otherwise you'll wake her with your roars of delight when you;re downstairs watching us lift the Uefa Cup on May 14th!

It has amused me how this story has been reported in the news. Just after it occurred it was "tremours across England" and this evening (on Granada Reports at least) it was being referred to as the "great quake"
Over-reaction, much?
Whilst it freaked me out at the time, it sure made me thankful I don't live in an area that experiences much stronger earthquakes, and with that in mind I think calling it a "great quake" is a little OTT. But I suppose those people who's houses are now lacking a chimney may have a differing opinion.
Either way, it was very strange...

Don't call it a comeback
