Post by General Mannerheim » Fri May 30, 2008 9:45 am

Anyone been watching this? Must admit ive never given it a chance before, and I didn’t see much of the audition shows this year either (the cynic in me does not believe any of the tradgic acts are for real anyway) but I have watched all the semi finals this week and its been ace, last one tonight then the final tomorrow – Great stuff.

Well, General, what's the verdict?

As a confessed "Bond" fan, the four-girl musical group, "Escala" won it hands down for me (fortunately, the public thought so too). ( Bit surprised to hear them described as "totally original as they even did two of Bond's ( who have been going for several years now) recordings. The one they did tonight was even called "Bond on Bond"

Not into hip-hop type dancing but the street kids, "Nemesis", deserved their place for entertainment value. Was a bit disgusted at the petulant reaction of the Scouse male duo who Cowell said, quite rightly in my opinion, were awful on the night. Felt a bit sorry for the singer/commedien but, it isn't about sentiment ( as in a couple of others) but talent. The burleque type stuff was a bit dated and jaded(even for me) and the "big girl power" woman dancer was well.....

All in all, the final should make for good viewing. Escala to walk it for me with the twelve year old second. We shall see.

Perhaps we could combine this thread with the nihilism one? The existence of Reality TV probably proves their point.....

I was refering to the drawing of a parallel between the the two

If there is a god, I can only assume he's a Jeremy Beadle style prankster for pulling this one on us.

My money's still on Escala with the twelve year old Faryl Smith and the thirteen year old lad (both singers) in the last three.

Can't quit believe though that Simon Cowell said tonight "Escala can put classical music on the map". Has he never heard of "Bond"? Both the numbers these girls played last night and tonight: "Bond on Bond" and "Alegretto" are Bond recordings and arrangements. They even play the same instruments and are equally as gorgeous. Wake up Simon lad.

They're not that hot....especially the one with the chin.

I want the wee girl to win. The only one with any real talent. She will do well in her career whatever happens though.

For a laugh I enjoyed the 2 sikhs and their Michael Jackson meets the cleaners.

I had it down mentally as Thriller meets Bangra, but yes, it was very funny.

It's the kind of thing that would go down well at a Royal Variety Show.
