There ya go! My predictions were absolute crap after all.
Once again, the great British public strike and.....two fantastic singing talents and four great young musicians lose out to two novelty acts. Funny, entertaining, yes. But both will fade away after a few months and a few showings and the eventual winner, a hip-hop dancing kid, is no better than a few thousand in every town.
Ah well, life is full of disappointments. Good luck to the kid, he gets on The Royal Variety Show, but after that, he'll need it.

I think Faryl will be sorted for life somehow, with a voice as spectacular as hers, especially for a 12 year-old (although she looked MUCH older than that!).TANGODANCER wrote:There ya go! My predictions were absolute crap after all.![]()

Mmmm the conspiracy theorists are out already
I actually enjoyed the show....until the result, there were 5 acts better than the winner, the opera singing kiddings, the girls musicians (even though they were copying Bond) were head and shoulders above him and to be blunt if a dancer/dancers were to win there were better dancers that went out in the previous rounds!
After all the fuss and bother about these shows surprised anyone actually phones in

They balance any comments about unfainess by the charity phoneline thing.(BT etc, must get a fair whack out of it too), but in the end the millions on mobiles, voting for their favourite, will always outweigh any real talent levels. ( Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice suffer exactly the same fate) Occasionally- as in the case of Paul Potts- sheer talent wins the day; not so last night. I totally agree it was good entertainment though and they could have made a decent Variety Performance out of the contestants in there.Raven wrote:Mmmm the conspiracy theorists are out alreadyI actually enjoyed the show....until the result, there were 5 acts better than the winner, the opera singing kiddings, the girls musicians (even though they were copying Bond) were head and shoulders above him and to be blunt if a dancer/dancers were to win there were better dancers that went out in the previous rounds!

I also don't agree with the sentiment angles -"I was bullied at school because I'm a singer " (welcome to the world son, millions get bulled at school for less) "I'm doing it for my babies"-bags of tears etc-. Cowell can be a prat at times but at least he knows his industry and most of his comments are realistic. End of day, the show's about talent, not sentiment.

Isn't it called a Variety show?
If Paul Potts hadn't won last year, one of the two singing kids would've probably won. But whats the point in sending the same act every year to a show about variety? The ones with the Violins and the girl singer were pretty dull anyway from what i've seen, nothing particularly original and they'll both be signed up anyway. IMO the winner should be someone who is not only talented, but for who performing at the RVP is going to be the highlight of their career, rather than a stepping stone to something else. While the girls with violins were off supporting McFly in an arena somewhere, the lad who won was busking on the streets of Manchester trying to improve his act. Thats why, along with the fact that he put on a very entertaining show, the BP voted for him.
Signature shoulda won though.

Fair comments Tom, but the RVP will have its fair share of mixed-act variety anyway. The kid that won, well, I can't help but be baffled by his statement "If I make it tonight it won't just make my life, it will save my life" Bit odd for a kid of his age? How much life have you had at thirteen? I do respect his attitude in coming back for another go, and also his work rate, but how much future does he see in hip-hop (or whatever) dancing? There are thousands of decent chorus-line dancers around who never get beyond back-ups. Anyway, as I said, good luck to him. Might just be another Gene Kelly in the making....but I doubt it somehow.Tombwfc wrote:Isn't it called a Variety show?

Aye, thats a bit over dramatic (i Sky+'d through all the talking).
His act is a bit of a novelty and it won't have a long shelf life, but why does it need to? Why is the focus always on who can become a worldwide star and make Simon Cowell shitloads of money? The show is about giving someone the chance to appear on the Royal Variety show, nothing more nothing less.
In reality he'll never become a worldwide star out of it, he'll be lucky to forge a half decent career out of it. But he worked hard and created one of the most entertaining acts of the show.
Anyway, quality show it BGT. The only reality show that i can stand to watch.

Did you hear the Scottish bloke saying how he wasn't allowed to pick his own song? RIGGED AS USUAL.

Good job Charles Dickens wasn't on the judging panel, if this - regarding Nancy and Bet from Oliver Twist- is anything to go by:communistworkethic wrote:but Jessie in the final two???? Really????CAPSLOCK wrote:Nancy had better quality
More talent in the final 3 than we've ever seen in XFactor and the like
"They wore a good deal of hair, not very neatly turned up behind, and were rather untidy about the shoes and stockings. They were not exactly pretty, perhaps; but they had a great deal of colour in their faces, and looked quite stout and healthy. Being remarkably free and easy with their manners, Oliver thought them to be very nice girls indeed. Which there is no doubt they were. [Oliver Twist, p.62]"
