Sorry querty, but you are claiming that they will set up a commision to investigate 'stealth' taxation with extra tax revenue gained from tax levied on existing tax?
Is that not a slight paradox?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

If they planned to spend this money, they (the goverment) must surely have known that the oil price was going to go to these heights which in turn means they are in active cahoots with the oil producers (maybe to pacify them over Iraq) and oil companies or they just saw it as another way to screw us all!!! and kept quiet.
If oil keeps going up at this rate Iraq will look like a picnic, wait till the US bases in the Gulf start bulgeing with personnel and hardware even in so called friendly Gulf states!

haven''t the costs of the entire public sector risen then? Petrol for ambulances, fuel for hospitals etc, that's all remained flat and not been affected by the increased in fuel costs? The cots of running all the public services have been affected just like the cost of private business and citizens. The Govt equally didn't plan for those additional costs as it did the additional income. Bit of a quid pro quo really.hoboh2o wrote:I stand by what I said;qwertywarrior wrote:that is nothing but shitehoboh2o wrote:Its 3.5p they had not planned on, nor in theory spent, so why not just give it back?fatshaft wrote:Yup, that extra 3.5p of VAT in the last 9 months is a killer eh?blurred wrote:The government have little need to add any duty to fuel, seeing as they're raking in many millions on the VAT that the oil price increases have brought in anyway.

Aye but if memory serves me right these services are subject to fuel rebates etc etc and this does not include Tesco and asdas fleets nor other vehicles that transport goods you and I buy.communistworkethic wrote:haven''t the costs of the entire public sector risen then? It should never be forgotten either that oil bought on the market in bulk is bought at a set price in some cases like airlines fuel is purchased a year in advance at a fixed price, I don't honestly know if NHS or goverment departments such as the MOD work in this way or not, I suspect they may!
With thousands of litres of petrol per day spewing out of every petrol station in the country, the goverment are making billions in extra revenue.fatshaft wrote:Yup, that extra 3.5p of VAT in the last 9 months is a killer eh?
There are 26 million cars on the road in Britain. If each one of those cars that fills up once at, say, an average of 40 litres, the government makes 40 x 3.5p x 26,000,000 which equals £36,400,000 in extra revenue above what it was a year ago.
Don't forget the heaveys that burn a hell of a lot more it could be around £50 mill, Buy us KAKA THAT WOULDblurred wrote:With thousands of litres of petrol per day spewing out of every petrol station in the country, the goverment are making billions in extra revenue.fatshaft wrote:Yup, that extra 3.5p of VAT in the last 9 months is a killer eh?

I'm more concerend about the £250m that the MOD have wasted on 7 helicopters that still haven't flown

That was illustrating a wider point, Commie. Each of those cars are filling up more than once, obviously (unless there's some miracle way to make one tank of petrol last a year), notwithstanding the fact that some of them have much bigger tanks than 40 litres. People on average would fill up, what, once a week? twice a week? Even at a miserly fortnightly fill-up, on average, and a small 40 litres at that, the government is making up to £900,000,000 in extra revenue above and beyond what it expected this year (and I suspect the real figure is substantially above that) just from the British motorist.communistworkethic wrote:which is feck all in the grand scheme of things. Furthermore, that's not taking into account any hauliers or industrial uses for petrol, and their use is considerably larger than the average car user. The annual figure runs well over a billion pounds of extra income generated by VAT gains on high petrol prices.
That's not small potatoes in anyones language.

Based on 30mpg, and 10k miles per year, the Govt would take £52 extra per car per year, £1 per week.blurred wrote:That was illustrating a wider point, Commie.
