Looks like they're going out now. If they didn't have Ronaldo in their team I might feel a bit sorry for them, especially after the Ballack push.
As an aside, is it just me, or does Ronaldo look a little bit 'chemically-enhanced' when compared to the rest of the diddy men in the Portuguese team? (Of course he couldn't be, what with all the rigorous testing that goes on in football.)
Great game so far, mind you.

Cant pick a bad player in the German side. Portugal's defence not as good as their mids and forwards, although Ballack's push was blatant. Impressd with Simao and Pepe amongst the Ports, and master tactician Deco was MOTM for me, probably Man of the Tournament. What I wouldn't give to see him in a White shirt. Never stopped running, always willing to take the ball however tight the marking and a fantastic passer. Taking nothing from the Germans, professional display all round.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
The Germans are just a typical German side, a well oiled machine that'll take some stopping. And in Ballack they have a player who seems to step up to the big occaisons more often that any other player in the world, in comparison to Ronaldo who is more often than not completely anonymous when it comes to the big occaisons.
Well, the Germans played well, but Portugal were very disappointing. Ronaldo did feck all, especially in the last ten minutes when you'd expect them to be taking on men and pushing forward, he barely touched the ball. Seemed like every time Portugal were in sight of the German box they blazed a wild shot over the bar.
Mind you, there was a blatant foul for Ballack's goal, shouldn't have stood.

Really enjoyed last nights game......... except the the commentators!
Jesus they couldn't have been kissing Ronaldo's arse anymore without penetration??
Couldn't have been his fault for the 2nd German goal, perhaps not his man but at least challenge Klose instead of standing there with you hands in the air as he put it in! Also They even said the first Portugeuse goal was great vision from Ronaldo
Wasn't it a rebound after admittedly a very good save from Heir Jens?? Or is he that good he can see the future and he knew Lehmann would parry it to Nuno Gomes?
The quality and objectiveness of both the beeb and itv commentary is woeful, and if I'm honest is close to ruining it for me. Was miles better watching it in Czech this weekend, I had no idea what Tomas Skuravy was talking about and it meant I was not pissed off with the constant stream of hero worship and bullsh*t coming out of his mouth
Rant over........ for now

Tyldesley's love of Ronaldo is like a teenager's crush: he can't stop thinking about him, blathering about how wonderful he is and unfavourably comparing anyone else in sight to him. So that's another good reason to see the back of the Portuguese, who would be an even better side if they ever had a striker worthy of the description. Not nice going out in the quarters, is it Mr Phil?
If Bosingwa plays as far up the field for Chelsea, with dimwit Asher C mirroring him on the other side, it'll make for some open games - but Essien, shurely set to replace the creaking Makelele as anchorman, will have to get through an even more superhuman amount of work...
Croatia-Turkey tonight could be a right old belter. Two teams who love to pass and attack intelligently. Bring it on.

Croatia are my adopted team for the tournament and I've been hugley impressed with them. If Eduardo was fit they would have been a fair shout for eventual winners. As it is they have more than enough in the tank to beat Turkey. Conceding before you start to play your football is hardly a tactic of genius.
On a side note they are quite a young side and have many players who might be getable and are better than we already have.

As long as the wind blows, fortunes can change.
I reckon Turkey will get through tonight. The adrenalin rush they must still be feeling after getting through must have given the whole squad so much confidence, whereas Croatia (though admittedly beating ze Germans would have done them no harm) had it all sewn up after game two. Dunno how solid the Turkish reserve keeper is though.

Must say the Turkish fans were amazing all the match. Never stopped roaring them on right through. Save of the tournament from their goalie too, and from a brilliant free kick. Think the doggedness was more from the great effort of both sides not to lose. Billick was going ape with the officials at the end for not blowing for time. Good entertainment, but I can't help thinking we could still be in there, based on what I've seen, had we not screwed it in qualifying.

The team that beat us pretty comfortable home and away just got knocked out to a side featuring Colin Kazim Richards.TANGODANCER wrote:Must say the Turkish fans were amazing all the match. Somehow i think it was a blessing we got knocked out when we did.
