FFS Tango, you are repeating the shite that Rednapp spewed about a week ago. Here's a thought, you have qualified for nearly every tournament in the last 20 odd years, have been seeded as a top 8 team in all of those, and yet rarely made it past the last eight, and never made a final even at home.Tombwfc wrote:The team that beat us pretty comfortable home and away just got knocked out to a side featuring Colin Kazim Richards.TANGODANCER wrote:Must say the Turkish fans were amazing all the match. Never stopped roaring them on right through. Save of the tournament from their goalie too, and from a brilliant free kick. Think the doggedness was more from the great effort of both sides not to lose. Billick was going ape with the officials at the end for not blowing for time. Good entertainment, but I can't help thinking we could still be in there, based on what I've seen, had we not screwed it in qualifying.
Somehow i think it was a blessing we got knocked out when we did.
Yet despite the overwhelming evidence that England are just not as good as they think they are, even now, after not even qualifying, there are some think they could be winning this.
Well gast my flabber.

Aye well YOU would say that wouldn't you FSfatshaft wrote:FFS Tango, you are repeating the shite that Rednapp spewed about a week ago. Aye he would, but he's right. Redknapp claimed that we'd have been contenders after Russia, who qualified at England's expense had been taken apart by Spain.hoboh2o wrote:Aye well YOU would say that wouldn't you FSfatshaft wrote:FFS Tango, you are repeating the shite that Rednapp spewed about a week ago. Well gast my flabber.

The first step to improving is to recognise the problem in the first place, ie we aren't very good.

Agree ginge, Players like Gerrard or Rooney are all-action (and brilliant when things come off) but give the ball away too often, just look how Gerrard and England's midfield were completely outplayed in 3 of the 4 games against Russia & Croatia. England have no-one with the technical ability of an Arshavin or Modric, Joe Cole is about the closest I suppose. Makes you wonder if English midfielders really are suited to the International game, at World Cup '90 England had players like Waddle, Gascoigne, Barnes, Beardsley up front etc. Quite different to the unsuccessful hard shooting and long passing midfield of today.
Croatia has 4m people, poor facilities and have a poor domestic league - yet they still produce a team better than ours, as well as many other top athletes in other sports, makes you wonder what they put in the water. Or what their sporting mentality is...

I can't believe how lacklustre and low they all looked. None of the spark was there.
Robben's injury was a bad blow, and obviously Boulahrouz's news was very sad, but I don't understand why there was so little life in the team.

Never had Russia in the frame but always fancied a team with a strong defence rather than the attack boys, so no real surprise with Holland.. Croatia gone, but my two other picks : Germany and Italy, I still fancy over the rest. Expect to see Spain go next. I'll stand to be corrected.

I want my prediction to be wrong. I want Spain to beat the Italians. Diving, cheating, death agonies and a friendly ref. Spain had two fair penalty shouts so far for me and Silva and Iniesta are impressive in midfield. Spain are fighting much better than in previous years and they can win this. Vamonos Espana! .

Quite happy to be proven wrong after that display. How can any team who with 10 mins to go in extra team are happy to pass it around the back four get any sympathy from anyone, including their mums.hisroyalgingerness wrote:Indeed, and now the turn of Spain to bottle tonight as we hurtle towards an Italy - Germany final and an Italian win.warthog wrote:A deserved victory for Russia. I can't call this tournament now. Turkey, Russia neither would surprise me. Maybe Hiddink finally has a team of underdogs capable of doing great things. We'll see
