Oh yeh, if you plan on doing the Grand Canyon there are two options. Everyone advises to go to the one that is furthest away...
Don't, its all commercialised and shít, go to the one that is closer(the one with the walkout thing). Its smaller, but 100 times better and you get fed by Indians, deer cooked ovr a fire or something similar. (did someone want culture?)
Don't go on an organised trip, that's for those that can't wipe their own arse, ahem.
Hire a Hummer from any of the hotels for $150 and do it yourself.

Well I also agree with Bruce and Crazy.CrazyHorse wrote:This is exactly what I say too. Went in '99 and couldn't wait to leave the place. Seriously, any more than three days there and you'll be climbing the walls.Bruce Rioja wrote:Hated every second of it. It's a millionaire's Blackpool. A million times more tacky, false and soul-less.
Stayed in Excalibur. Cheap and cheerful and just like olde medieval England. Apparently.
If you like warehouses full of row upon row of slot machines - you'll love it - as that basically what the Casino’s are - tucked away in a corner you will find a few roulette, poker and baccarat tables - but otherwise they are packed from one end to the other with slots!
You can't get away from the bloody things - if you go anywhere - the petrol station, or a diner, or a bar - there will be more of the little buggers - they are all over the place - not just confined to the casinos.
Anyway if you are going I certainly agree with Batty - you simply must see the Grand Canyon. I took a plane trip to see it - the helicopter flights can't travel as far in distance but you do have the advantage of actually flying into the canyon rather than above it.
The Hoover Dam and Death Valley are not too far away from Vegas either - my advice is that unless you are an engineer or like looking at sand then don't bother going.
I would recommend however that you visit The Stratosphere (which is about 102 stories high) and do the rides on the top of its 'roof'!
I don't know what the hell Ginger Mourinho is talking about but I strolled up the strip from the Luxor to the Stratosphere (which is more or less the touristy bit of the Strip) wearing flip-flops and I bet it did not take an hour if that.
The breakfast buffets when I went (about eight years back) were excellent value both in terms of quality and price, and kept me going through out most of the day. Mind you the weather was so hot throughout the day that I only ever felt hungry at breakfast and late evening.
Finally I was very impressed at the ceilings in the shopping Malls on the strip! They somehow managed to make them look like the sky with fluffy white clouds - I never figured out how they did it but the effect was very realistic.
Anyway have a great time - and I hope you enjoy your visit a great deal more than my experience.

Sluffy, Im not being funny, but your talking rubbish. Its nothing like it was 8 years ago. You can't cross a road without going up an esclator, through a hotel and back down anothr escalator. The strip is about 4 miles long, you would do well to walk that in an hour without all the Hazards.sluffy wrote:Well I also agree with Bruce and Crazy.CrazyHorse wrote:This is exactly what I say too. When? 4 weeks time that's when. Will take the point about distance into consideration through. It's just that goddamn pool and burlesque show, I don't even think I'll make the stripGingerMourinho wrote:Planet is better than Caesers in my opinion, although it depends what you want?hisroyalgingerness wrote:planet hollywood and caesars are doable, though i gotta be honest i've fallen in love with the Mandalay Bay's pool/beach thing
What time of the year are you looking to go and the pool isn't open all year round.
P.s - Mandalay Bay is really nice, buts its out of the way and its a pain walking to the centre of the strip every night.

Can you come on here after you have been mate and tell all these numpties its not like walking through the park, it takes you 10 minutes to get from your hotel room onto the strip.
I guess you must not have seen them then.communistworkethic wrote:hmm, sluffy confused by paint, who'dathunkit?
The 'sky' ceilings were in constant movement - clearly they were being projected onto the ceilings somehow - but the effect seemed to be seamless.
I could not workout how it was done - nor could anyone else who I asked about it.

LAS VEGAS IS THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH!!!
only been once for a week but i have never been anywhere where ive looked at houses and jobs before i left! we stayed at the Luxor, when we first walked in it was the most stunning and extravagent hotel id ever seen, that feeling is soon expired when you walk into most of the others, but none of them are bad.
my tip is to use the Crown & Anchor for getting pissed, english pub 20 mins off the strip, i dont know if its true what they say about oxygen in the casinos but the alcohol just dosent seem to work. so we kicked off every night down the Crown with a few proper pints! they also have Sky sports!
But the best thing we did, and its still one the best experiences ive ever had, was the Ghost bar on top of the Palms hotel, absolutley fooking astounding!!! and it didnt cost a penney, there were queues all round the casino, we walked straight to the front, completely ignorant, and the bouncers lifted the velvet rope and we were in, you get the worlds fastest lift straight to the top, and then fill yer boots. all the beaver in there think you must be some kind of big player, then when we thought our luck could not get any better, when we went to the bar the barman pointed to this bloke in a cowboy hat and said drinks are on him tonight, he's just had a big win!!! awesome!
we went the summer after the season we relegated west ham at the reebok and all their players were kicking off - walking round the MGM one night we bumped into Joe Cole, top bloke, had a few beers and a bit of a laugh about the game, it was surreal, beaver on him like flies round shit too, remember him saying that night that he would never leave west ham, then signed for chelsea a week after we got back.
been dying to go back ever since, going for my mates stag do in April 2009, cant fookin wait!
tacky and sleasey bits are all part of the fun.

Another tip: Play craps!
its by far the most fun you can have in a casino, you wont have a clue what the frig is going on at first but stick with it, its brilliant!
i had been given a few lessons on cruise previous and read up a bit, then at first i just chose someone who looked like he knew what he was doing and copied his bets - was whoooping and high fiving in no time!!!
ahhh, fooking love vegas...
