England v Croatia

Agreed, if he wants to retire from International footy he can do anytime for me. Over their England careers Lampard has easily performed the better in the White shirt IMO.
I thought Barry was dire tonight though, but it'd be Hargreaves i'd swap him with against good teams, and Carrick in against the shit ones. Other than that i'd keep this side for a while. Owen and Young must surely be worth a place on the bench though. And this has to be the end of the short lived era of the Downing.

That was supposed to mark the coming of age of the golden generation. In the end, they only ever flattered to deceive. For instance, limping out of the World Cup in the style they did, even if it was against Brazil in the QF (who were a man down for over half an hour, mind), was unacceptable. Maybe the fact that's acceptable to some is why England aren't ever winners?Tombwfc wrote:People who make comparisons with Germany '01 as if it's a bad thing baffle me, i'd be quite happy with qualifying and reaching the QF stage.
That said, tonight's result was cracking! Hopefully they can keep up the good work.
Only Barry startedBwfcDan wrote:Yes of course, we cant let a world class player such as Gerrard be in the team before people like Jermaine Jenas, David Beckham or Gareth Barry.CAPSLOCK wrote:Not only has that snivelling tw*t Carragher played his last game, Gerrard should be nowhere near the next team, either
Can only be good news
We've set out to pick a team tonight, not a collection of the best players
Thatys why Heskey is in
The mix worked
Is it too difficult for you to grasp?

Is it too difficult for me to grasp?? No i agree the mix worked, but why on earth do you not want to play your best players when they're available!!
Oh well, Capello will put him back in the team when he's back to full fitness!! And that's why he's the manager and your not!!

I loved the way the (wank) commentators banged on about 'oh no! Joe Cole got up and took a few steps before falling over, which is a big, big concern!'KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Joe Cole's just done a great impression of Amir Khan on Saturday. He probably took as much of a whack as Khan did too.
Not sure it deserved a red card, mind.
He suffered impact shock ffs! He was fine until he
1. Felt blood trickle down his face.
2. Felt his head and saw blood on his hand.
3. felt his head and felt the gash.
It's nothing new, and certainly isn't life threatening!
Don't get me wrong. I'm not having a go at Cole (though it's always nice to) I'm having a dig at the shitarse co-commentator tonight (please remind me of the name). I'm as English as the next man, but enjoy an unbiased coverage. This guy was just beyond belief biased.
As for the game. So very much better in the second half. Walcott showed himself to be a very calm character, and finisher in front of goal, and more then deserved his match ball

The truth is, we didn't start playing to our teams true ability until we was 2-0 up against ten men. From what I saw, we could have taken them apart, had we had the belief and determination to do it from the off.
It's the victory we needed to hopefully wipe the cobwebs from McCleans bulldozing of our national side, and the start of us becoming a genuine fearless, talented and win hungry side once more. A great result, and what's more, we got the goal difference we lost at the weekend, in the one place we never thought possible. Strange game this football eh?

P.S. Terry was poor, Brown was wondering about Saturday, James scared the shit out of me yet again, and Cashley Cole was down right fxcking dreadful, and mean shite!! He was owned completely throughout that game. How he managed to finish it is astonishing.
James - 6 One of the best shot stoppers in the world. Everything else is fear factor!
Brown - 6 Durr du du du durrrrr, du du durrrrrrrrrr. tum te tum, te tuuuuuuuuuum
Ferdinand - 7 Solid, not much to do
Terry - 6 Bad decision making on numerous occasions. One of which cost us a goal.
Barry - 7 Gave too many freekicks away in the first half when he didn‘t need to, but came into the game much more in the second half. Very tidy.
Lampard - 7 Quite first half, but looked much more threatening when he finally discovered that he is in fact an attacking midfielder. It was his forward push from midfield that put Croatia on the constant back foot.
Cole (Joe) - 6 Hardly had a touch in the first half, but was a much bigger threat when he stayed on the left wing in the second, giving us some much needed width. went off with a nasty looking cut, then re-appeared near the end in the dugout, with his new permanent side parting.
Rooney - 8 Took his goal well, but infuriates me with his insistence to drop back, without the ability to get his fat arse back where it needs to be when needed. The lad is much better when he's hovering around the 18 yard area, creating and scoring. Got an extra point for a fantastic touch and through ball for Theo's hat trick.
Walcott - 9 point deducted due to trying to be cleverer then what was needed, but that's just me being a shit!

Heskey - 8 Ran his socks off for nothing in the first and covered his line well. I just hate the fact that he never EVER jumps for a ball he doesn't think he can get. Even though doing so can cause the defender to misplace his header.
Did I miss anyone?
Oh aye,
Jenus - 7 Stayed on the flank and did well to set the goal up for Rooney.
YOU CLIMB OBSTACLES LIKE OLD PEOPLE FXCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Going out to the eventual winners via a fluke goal is unacceptable? Christ. Maybe it's the hugely unrealistic expectations that are the reason behind our underperformance?minibus wrote:That was supposed to mark the coming of age of the golden generation. Indeed, we may or may not have found the key to England becoming succesful, but instead of seeing how it pans out with this side for a bit you'd rather just go back to the way it was before with Stevie Me?
Highlights are free on Setanta in a bit, not that you're arsed Dax, you weren't bothered about watching England four hours ago.
