But it already is being dictated to by "custom and practise". Any legislation to clarify the situation would surely be most welcome ;-)

Harper had a minority government and went to the polls this Fall. He ended up with a stronger minority. He proposed some fiscal legislation that irritated all other parties (with some justice). The remaining parties stated that they would defeat this legislation and form a coalition (though they were strange bedfellows). The Governor General (Queen's representative) had three choices - i) let the government be defeated and ask the coalition to form a government, ii) let the government be defeated and call for another election or iii) prorogue (not dissolve) parliament until January. Harper, having backed off his proposal, urged the third alternative to allow him time to present a more sensible budget in January. No one in the country wanted another election so soon and not many wanted a coalition that would include the Bloc Quebecois whose raison d'etre is to break up the country. The GG went for prorogation and there we stand, awaiting what the new year will bring.

Thailand went the other way and opted for a coalition with the 2nd largest party in charge. Actually it was a bit more complicated than that, but the ex Man City owner must have had an aneurysm. More fireworks expected in the new year.

If they all didn't follow like sheep I'd agree! and the Euro MP's don't make any "important descions" the ministers do.

Perhaps we could reserve the vote purely for the landowner, whilst he mercifully allows us to lease land from him, doff of the cap m'lud. And whilst he's at it, I've never understood why Women get the vote, they only vote as their husbands and they'd all vote Tory anyway. Feck it, in fact the Reigning Monarch is Appointed by God, so why not just leave it up to them, they'd know best for us.

The logic of the proposal is impeccable - the system as it stands is unfairly biased.

Alternatively- shoot all of the above. Appoint those willing to rule in the interests of the disadvantaged working class. Shoot the work shy. Put all those who havent done a decent days work in their lives in labour camps (bankers, profiteers and landowners and the privately educated). Abolish private wealth. Invest in adult literacy, the Arts and sport (for propaganda purposes as well as intrinsic value). Its the coming thing folks!!!

The 'coming thing' where you're concerned is, I suspect, a group of men in white coats.
