Sky Sports: Bolton agree fee with Newcastle for Nolan

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Sky sports are also reporting that Megson has said that Bolton are unlikely to be able to match Sporting's valuation of Veloso....

I've not been as critical as some of Nolan and tended to support him, but I have also been suggesting that we needed a quality midfielder in that sort of more advanced role (if only to give him a kick up the arse or replace him). I would be pi$$ed if we sold Nolan and ended up with no further additions in MF, given that we decided that Bullard wasn't value for money and Veloso is apparently out of reach in terms of transfer fee. I might not be quite as pi$$ed, if it turns out that this sale allows us to match Sporting's valuation :-)

£4.5mil for a player who's been dragging his heels for a while, has a terrible disciplinary record...it isn't that bad guys, seriously. Though as I've said before, I just pray we get a replacement in before 5pm monday. The turbulence in between the haziness of cloud is always scary.

"...for the right player". It's not a blank cheque. And Megson was quoted just last night about balancing the books, or more precisely how he's only spent about £2.5m net.

Megson claimed (and I saw him say it with my very own eyes) that money wasn't a problem and if we asked for it then Davies would give him the money.

Anyway...
NEWCASTLE United have made a £4.5million bid for Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan, The Bolton News understands.

The club have not yet decided whether to accept the offer for their long-serving midfielder. More to follow.

If Veloso isn't "the right player" at over £12 million, our record signing, then who the hell is?

This has to be because of Veloso...it just has to be...doesn't it? :?

If Monday passes and we haven't signed anyone else, I've got a spare piece of rope if you need.

To be honest though to all the real fans out there, hes been with us for 10 seasons, which at least 5-6 Outstanding seasons he has played. There is no point saying all this abuse about him. Ever since he had hes kid, he went crap we all know this.

I will remember him as a bolton legend if he leaves.

Oh don't have me wrong, he has been a tremendoud servant to BWFC, and was the spine of our days under BSM (I think I had him in my top XI IIRC). But, as you say, time has passed and sprogs have popped...it'll be a goodbye, not a good riddance.

I wasn't saying Veloso isn't the right player, FD; I was just pointing out that Megson had phrased it carefully, the implication being that Eddie Davies will shell out for the right player (eg Anelka) but not hand any manager an imbalanced budget to piss away as he pleases. And there's nothing wrong with that method.

Oh come on Tom, we're selling a player, not leaving our home after a century or selling the naming rights to the highest bidder. Bolton Wanderers will continue, and the management will not deliberately sell a player just to make a petty point.

As for "we probably deserve to go the way of Charlton", I had you down as a reasonably analytical fella, not a cross between Rita Hayworth and Marvin the Paranoid Android. It's a player leaving. Like all Bolton fans, you've seen it before, and you'll see it again.
Nolan needs a new club, no doubt.

He's not performing for us. He's not likely to again. Its a fairish price, but when you consider some of the other deals you just think its BWFC being too soft again.

For me its a reaction to last night - so maybe those few thousand d*ckheads abusing megson have actually cost us some money there - have a think about that lads? actually you probably can't read so don't worry about it.....

And I tell you this - if we get any sh*t from Megson about not having a big enough squad - he'll deserve some reasoned stick, not during a game, but after. That I cannot argue with.

This is the Nolan that I've been repeatedly told that no premiership manager in their right mind would bid good money for.

Hmm.

He's not at his best. I think he's gone a bit stale. I think probably he needs a move.

I'm still scared shitless about what we'll do to replace him and how much of an influence (positive or otherwise) we will lose from the squad spirit!

well the morons are having their way No they are not Nolan's been coning a living here for the best part of three seasons

megson next Season end hopefully and if Gartsides done his homework properly this time

then gartside Uncle Eddie will lose patience with him soon if we continuously struggle and alienate fans

and we'll be managed by jimmy phillips in league 1 soon enough No we won't that's kneejerkisum

still at least all the JCLs then will be happy with 3rd round of the FA Cup and not expect top 6 every year No one in their right mind ever thought top 6 every year nor did they think struggle either

£3 million is effectively £1 mil tops in the market of two years ago I'd have it thankyou!!!

and he's going cos he's fed up i bet, and megsons given in to his mate, which i can sort of understand given the full peice here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 858772.stm

You weren't there yesterday, and didn't see the delight that a large number of our fans took in being given the oppertunity to hurl abuse at the manager. That coupled with the club captain, also target of the boo boys, leaving leaves me a little dis-illusioned. I'll express that how i want, over the top or otherwise, and if that changes your opinion of me i'm not that arsed.

Newcastle. Joe Kinnear. Your point being?

Interestingly, the Press Association is toeing a more considered "Newcastle have submitted an offer" line. Are Sky still prefixing it with "Sky Sports sources understand"?

Nolan - 26 - time to run on his contract (3 years?)
Bullard - 30 - contract up in the season end

similar goalscoring records

£4.5mil is a bollocks fee really

glad of it IF we have a decent replacement. and that's a big IF.

he hasn't been good enough for a long time and has become un-droppable for whatever reason.

just hope that insane record where we never win when he's missing is quickly extinguished should he go.

Citing Jimmy Phillips as our next manager was big knee jerkism in fairness

I just know we all want Owen Coyle, but if we go down he won't come, so I though about good old Jimmy

Hands up

ITs not the end of the world

It could be the beginning of an end though
