Hmm. Well I would've liked a little more than £4.5m, but given Bullard went for £5m maybe it's not too far off.
I'll be very glad of the opportunity to replace him as captain, and not have him automatically selected in the heart of our team, but for me this all rests entirely on who we have lined up to bring in to midfield. We MUST have somebody lined up. If not, it's a really bad move.
...I don't suppose tylswhite has said much recently over on WW?

Meggo plays his cards close to his chest does he not? There was me thinking Nolan was the first name on his team sheet and now it seems he was only playing him to keep him in the shop window. Good move for Kev, GREAT move for BWFC. Ive repeatedly (some would say ad nauseam) pleaded for Megson to move the old guard on. SKD next?

Might be time for the old guard of fans to move on too. Tea dances at the Social Services club?lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Meggo plays his cards close to his chest does he not? If this happens, I would be sad to see him go as he is class.. certainly ahead of what we currently have. I would not blame him for leaving as I know what it is to give your heart and soul for your team, only to face abuse. It was intersting to hear people saying Basham was Man of the Match vs Man U when if Nolan had put in a performance like that, he would have been abused for contributing little to the team.
I hope we sign someone of equal or better quality before next Tuesday or else chances are, we will be relegated with a midfield of Muamba, Basham and McCann.

I can't say too much right now because anything I say will be hugely coloured by emotion. I am absolutely gutted at this. The proposed move of Kevin Nolan from Bolton Wanderers to Newcastle United seems to be bucking the trend of many Premier League transfers this January and resolving itself with unusual haste.
Goal.com reported earlier that a £4.5million fee had been agreed with the two club's for the services of the dynamic midfielder, and now reports in England have confirmed that the move had progressed a stage further, with Nolan travelling to Tyneside to undergo a medical with the Magpies tomorrow morning, according to Sky Sports News.
The Newcastle Chronicle confirms that, should the medical provide him with the all-clear, Nolan will ink a deal to complete his switch from the Reebok Stadium to St James' Park in the morning.
The Liverpool born player, a dynamic midfielder who creates and scores goals, has been indentified by Toon manager Joe Kinnear as possessing the necessary battling qualities to help drag Newcastle out of the relegation mire that is so swiftly sucking them down.
Kinnear has moved swiftly for the player after Magpies midfielder Joey Barton faced up to the prospect another two months on the sidelines after breaking his foot during the Toon's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City last night.
Should Nolan sign in the morning, as is anticipated, then it will provide a real boost to the Geordie club ahead of this weekend's eagerly anticipated Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland.
If Megson HONESTLY thinks the team is better off without Nolan, it just goes to prove that he really is on a mission to remove any kind of quality we ever had and replace them with cloggers. I never thought I'd be one of "those guys" but right now, with this deal looking like reality, I can't help but feel utterly resentful towards the club for letting this happen.
The deal will go through tomorrow morning, confirmed by lunch...and we'll have a new thread "New Captain?" within minutes. Anyone who thinks "I'll drive him there" will get a rude awakening but it'll be too late as he'll have already gone. I can't help but feel people saying "good riddance" to him are in some ways, not fans of this club at all.
Sure, sure, he's just a player and BWFC will go on...maybe there is no room for sentiment in football but *I* am not "in football" and I do feel sentiment, I'm a fan of Nolan. I'm a fan of what he represents not just on the pitch but off it too. Where his colleagues and betters (skill wise) are getting arrested, pissed and shagging sluts, he's a bastian of what I'd have aspired to be as a lad, a model professional who takes it all on his chin and keeps trying. He may not be the player he was, but I'll never forget some of the incredible goals he scored for us.
Good luck Nobby, thanks for captaining my club with the dignity and pride you did. The abuse you've taken from some "fans"...well, thank you for putting up with it, and I don't blame you for leaving.

I respect your emotion but that quote's just a rewrite of a speculative news story. Goal.com were quoting Sky, but seem to have become a source in their own right. Note the widespread quotes of the fees £3m and £4.5m, which aren't exactly next-door neighbours.
Doesn't mean it won't happen, but it's not over yet.

too much wind in its sails, with no denials, DSB. Think it's down to an unexpected medical failure - wrong body/mass index for Joe Kinnear?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I respect your emotion but that quote's just a rewrite of a speculative news story. Sums it up perfectly for me ...jaffka wrote:Selling such an important player with the end of the window nigh and no proven replacement brought in, will IMO be a very poor decision.
We sell him and make a cock up similar to last season when we failed to replace Anelka, well I will fear for the rest of the season.
Djorkaeff ... Djorkaeff must score ... he does ... HE DOES !!!

ps thebish could you let this unselective quoting slip on this occasion?

Absolutely. If he wasn't going, we'd have been all over it saying "He's not for sale at any price".William the White wrote:too much wind in its sails, with no denials, DSB. The silence speaks volumes. Megson and the club are keeping their silence in order to decide how to play this in their favour.

Well, can hardly blame him if he wants to leave, but I thaught this year would be the year he became the goalscoring midfielder he once was. If we have someone good lined up then 4.5 mil for someone who hasn't hit good form for 3 years isn't all that bad (would still like more for Nobby though), if we don't bring in someone decent then Megson will be crucified and our season may fall to bits.
