Quite possibly. Hopefully, by ramping up the asking price. Only the Newcastle Chronicle (which has been wrong before) and Sky Sports (ditto, and which also quotes a radically different price to the Chronicle) say the deal is done. Others say they've offered an amount which we're considering. Are you watching, Allardyce? Wasn't Nobby your No.1? Didn't Newcastle f*ck you over? How about ramping the bid up a bit?FD wrote:Absolutely. If he wasn't going, we'd have been all over it saying "He's not for sale at any price".William the White wrote:too much wind in its sails, with no denials, DSB. Think it's down to an unsespected medical failure - wrong body/mass index for Joe Kinnear?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I respect your emotion but that quote's just a rewrite of a speculative news story. Goal.com were quoting Sky, but seem to have become a source in their own right. Note the widespread quotes of the fees £3m and £4.5m, which aren't exactly next-door neighbours.
Doesn't mean it won't happen, but it's not over yet.
The silence speaks volumes. Megson and the club are keeping their silence in order to decide how to play this in their favour.
More to come on this, I reckon...
I'm sorry FD - but i don't agree - and that does not mean I am not a real fan.
yes - i like nolan - and his years of commitment to the club
but... model professional?? he has passion - but too often misdirected - his passion is 90% shout at the ref these days - and that is NOT model professional - how many yellows has he accumulated for shouting at the ref?? football-wise he really does add little - and he has been not adding much for a very long time....
sentiment - yeah - all of that - and I share it - I will regret the end of his Bolton days
BUT.... does that mean I would have him as first name on team sheet - taking up one of 11 precious places (and as captain - unless demoted - he HAS to be) - then I am not sure I would.
seems options are..
1. to drop the captain
2. to demote him and keep him as a squad player
3. to keep him - and thus guarantee his place in the team week-by-week
4. sell him while we can still get some dosh - and give him the chance to make a new start which SURELY he needs... and use the dosh to add bite to a very tird and predictable midfield lineup - summat Nolly hasn't done for a long time....
out of those - i'd still pick 4.

Agree with all the acclamation for the bloke as a bloke. But as a footballer he has been very, very poor for an awful long time.
I'm pretty sure we have a replacement lined up but i would still be confident of staying up with a midfield comprising a permutationMuamba, Taylor, Gardner, Basham,Davies McCann, Davies (M)? could be anything
Time to look forward folks

Not much time left in the transfer window to buy a match ready, class centre midfielder who can readily replace him.thebish wrote:I'm sorry FD - but i don't agree - and that does not mean I am not a real fan.

You have to be joking mate. 2 established midfielders, 2 left wingers and 2 kids, one of whom has played a few games and done ok.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:but i would still be confident of staying up with a midfield comprising a permutationMuamba, Taylor, Gardner, Basham,Davies McCann, Davies (M)?
We have a tiny squad and everyone, EVERYONE has been going on about how we are desperately short in the midfield of all places. The solution is to sell our captain, who happens to be a midfielder, 4 days before the deadline on the back of what appears to be a collapse for a Veloso deal.
I don't see who the hell we're going to replace him with, on OR off the field.
Extremely surprised by this. But in all honesty I think we should let him go. He does his job, but it time for both him and the club to move on. Would say a round £5 million would be more correct, though appearances for country should be put in there as a condition, because you never know he could get himself back together.
I also think Davies could be off in the Summer if a replacement is found. Times have changed, whether for the good or not, and it means that an type of Davies influence on a game is out-lawed.
Then again this could all just be talk. Or even just a bid from Newcastle but yet to be rejected. Who knows.

Puzzling, a lot here say he's been shit for 2 years but think £4.5 million is too low a fee. Would you pay £6 or 7 mill for someone who's deemed to be shit?
Very sad to see him go but for the lad a change is definitely needed. We'll see how his career goes now he's free of all the 'abuse'. But surely there's a replacement coming in considering Megson stating midfield needs strengthening. Though Hull lost yesterday, when Bullard came on he was pretty impressive. Pity.

FD wrote:I can't say too much right now because anything I say will be hugely coloured by emotion. I am absolutely gutted at this. The proposed move of Kevin Nolan from Bolton Wanderers to Newcastle United seems to be bucking the trend of many Premier League transfers this January and resolving itself with unusual haste.
Goal.com reported earlier that a £4.5million fee had been agreed with the two club's for the services of the dynamic midfielder, and now reports in England have confirmed that the move had progressed a stage further, with Nolan travelling to Tyneside to undergo a medical with the Magpies tomorrow morning, according to Sky Sports News.
The Newcastle Chronicle confirms that, should the medical provide him with the all-clear, Nolan will ink a deal to complete his switch from the Reebok Stadium to St James' Park in the morning.
The Liverpool born player, a dynamic midfielder who creates and scores goals, has been indentified by Toon manager Joe Kinnear as possessing the necessary battling qualities to help drag Newcastle out of the relegation mire that is so swiftly sucking them down.
Kinnear has moved swiftly for the player after Magpies midfielder Joey Barton faced up to the prospect another two months on the sidelines after breaking his foot during the Toon's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City last night.
Should Nolan sign in the morning, as is anticipated, then it will provide a real boost to the Geordie club ahead of this weekend's eagerly anticipated Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland.
If Megson HONESTLY thinks the team is better off without Nolan, it just goes to prove that he really is on a mission to remove any kind of quality we ever had and replace them with cloggers. I never thought I'd be one of "those guys" but right now, with this deal looking like reality, I can't help but feel utterly resentful towards the club for letting this happen.
The deal will go through tomorrow morning, confirmed by lunch...and we'll have a new thread "New Captain?" within minutes. Anyone who thinks "I'll drive him there" will get a rude awakening but it'll be too late as he'll have already gone. I can't help but feel people saying "good riddance" to him are in some ways, not fans of this club at all.
Sure, sure, he's just a player and BWFC will go on...maybe there is no room for sentiment in football but *I* am not "in football" and I do feel sentiment, I'm a fan of Nolan. I'm a fan of what he represents not just on the pitch but off it too. Where his colleagues and betters (skill wise) are getting arrested, pissed and shagging sluts, he's a bastian of what I'd have aspired to be as a lad, a model professional who takes it all on his chin and keeps trying. He may not be the player he was, but I'll never forget some of the incredible goals he scored for us.
Good luck Nobby, thanks for captaining my club with the dignity and pride you did. The abuse you've taken from some "fans"...well, thank you for putting up with it, and I don't blame you for leaving.
Sorry FD Jesus he wasn't!
A good player with prospects he was, till the media and BSA filled his head with crap about being an England international.
Same thing happend to Hunt BSA bigging him up and look at him now, worth nowt! Take the money while its there!!!!

So right... FD making the running for those of us who shudder at what the relegation battle might now become...FD wrote:You have to be joking mate. 2 established midfielders, 2 left wingers and 2 kids, one of whom has played a few games and done ok.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:but i would still be confident of staying up with a midfield comprising a permutationMuamba, Taylor, Gardner, Basham,Davies McCann, Davies (M)?

tis true - but maybe I haven't gone all the way yet to believing that the club would be so stupid not to have a likely target lined up - or some confidence about what might be needed to bring in Veloso...jaffka wrote:

funnily enough - i was kind of wondering if veloso's arrival might be the thing needed to revitalise Nolan - maybe it was clutching at straws - but - maybe we'll never know now (DSB's sensible caution having been taken into account!)
You really don't miss something till its gone.
I hope this is a ploy by the club to get supporters to appreciate what we have. I also think its a publicity stunt aimed to cover up the Veleso disapointment, "Hey look we have kept Nolan so that should be good enough".
You watch the "Megson is a wanker" parade singing "Ooooh Kevin Nolan" as he spanks one in against spurs.

Anyone who thinks Nolan has had a lot of stick (at matches, not on the flamin t'internet) obviously wasnt around when Julian Darby was playing.
"Get your feet off the furniture you Oxbridge tw*t. You're not on a feckin punt now you know"
looking at it objectively... (I know it is not really possible)
but..
IF Nolan had grown up at Fulham and had been stuttering badly there for three seasons - and we had missed out on Bullard - and Megson announced he had clinched the signing of Nolan from Fulham for £4.5mill - would we all be whooping and proclaiming the saviour of our season???
I hesitantly suggest - no we f-ing well would not - we'd be calling for Megson's blood!!! (oh!)
