I'll be watching a Jeremy Kyle from last week after being informed someone I know was on it - the dysfunctional bastard.

At the risk of howls of derision, I'm going to give Starsky and Hutch a look (Freeview 7 at 9-0) just because one guy at work claims it's hilarious.

Yeh, it was worse than THAT film.

Day of the Dead. The 2008 remake. Or, rather, film loosely based on the Romero classic.
Hmmm. It wasn't awful. Passed the time. The zombies ran and leapt about a bit too much - they lacked that shuffling, creeping death aspect. And they used tools. They even used guns at one point. Which was interesting twist.
It was OK.
Indeed, it was the only thing I could watch, given that I scanned through the EPG thingy, and discovered that the alternative, presented by Sky 3, was something called BNP Wives. WTF? I had visions of a "specialist audience" Readers Wives. Ugly, gaunt women with lank hair and dead eyes filled with self-loathing. Except with added swastika tattoos. Sprawled naked across vile-looking sofas, reading pamphlets claiming the Holocaust never happened.
Eugh. A step too far, even for me.

It's weird, I'm usually not into anything vaguely in the fantasy/sci fi/whatever genres, but I do like a good zombie film. I agree, having them able to run is such a poor shout - the truly terrifying thing is the slow inevitability of the sheer volume of them!

Oh I dunno I thought the running zombies were pretty impressive in the remake of Dawn of the Dead. Them feck* could run n'all. Didnt even know there was a Day of the Dead remake. I'll have to watch it now. Thought Puskas meant Land of the Dead at first which I didnt think much of.

I've got nothing against zombies that can run. The Dawn of the Dead remake was good. I'd even recommend Fulci's City of The Living Dead, which has zombies that seem to be able to materialise out of thin air - no running away from them buggers. Watch that film if you want something that almost - but doesn't quite - make sense.
But I do think, as MWCIEC points out, you can lose some of the creepiness that comes with a shambling opponent that creeps inexorably up on you, no matter how fast you try to get away from it....
Still, as I said, the Day of the Dead remake was OK. Some good face-eating scenes, if that's your cup of tea.

Did you see any of that Big Brother zombie thing? They didn't pull any punches in the flesh eating scenes at the end, which is the bit I saw...

Yes. I thought that was great. And it had running zombies in - so they're not all bad....

Two of my friends were extras in that. One of them got to rip Davina's throat out. Her brother played the twattish producer, Patrick

Just watched Edge of Love, a film loosely based around the wartime activities of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Didn't find it bad although just as a story without the Dylan connection it wouldn't have been particularly strong. Kiera Knightly played a decent part and sang surprisingly well in addition to being her usual gorgeous self.

Found the guy who played the Dylan a little robust looking for man who was a weakly asthmatic character in real life.

And it's written by the most criminally underrated TV writer around.

Trying to make a decision between watching The Reader and Frost/Nixon tommorow. Any advice? (Gut tells me F/N will be more my thing..)

Not caught either yet - though both on my list.

Saw slumdog millionaire tonight - some very good stuff, some predictable, a lot sentimental, but well worth seeing production by the boy from Canon Slade... Closing credits great fun...

To be recommended... coming soon... the annual VIVA festival at the Cornerhouse in Mancland... I love it, ten days in early march and about 60 Spanish/Hispanic/Latin American films usually. I've seen some excellent movies that got no kind of release in uk outside of the festival... check it out on corner house website www.cornerhouse.org/film :D
