The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas.

A story of war through the eyes of two innocent eight-year-old boys. A truly terrible film in its content, but one that every person on the planet should see as a reminder of man's inhumanity to his fellow man. An episode in our history that must never be forgotten or or ever again repeated.

Welcome back, Tango... Have avoided that movie - there are some things i think i just can't take... war and kids is one of them - have to turn off the news sometimes...

But recognise what you mean in your advocacy...

Watched the Mummy last night on TV, an enjoyable if not spectaular film with good special effects, but some poor acting from Brendan Fraser et al. Some good comic moments from John Hannah, quite like his acting style. Rachel Weisz was looking her best but again isn't a very good actress, not seen much of her since she played a dragon in Eragon.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Really good film, with a bleak bleak ending.

One of the most uncomfortable films I've ever watched really.

Haven't read the book yet, but intend to.

The book stays with you for weeks afterwards. The ending...my word I don't think I've ever cried so much after finishing a book! A necessary read though for all ages.

it would have taken something seriously special to have beaten her to the best actress, absolutely superb! the young Mike is pretty incredible too, David Kross!

fantastic film, and an original score - often wondered about post war germany and how folk got back to normal etc. gripping stuff!
reckon there might have been a tight wardrobe budget though? frickin bollock naked all the way through!

Anyone else 'xcited about the start of the annual corporate bloodbath that is The Apprentice? Starts tomorrow. Saw that in the first episode some bright spark cleaned some bloke's car...with the doors open. Can't wait.

I wouldn't say excited, but it is compelling.

To quote one of this year's contestants: "Business is the new rock and roll and I'm Elvis"

Presumably that means a pizza and toilet experience by week 9?

Library Theatre, Manchester. Play by Irish writer Frank McGuinness, whose previous work has rightly won big awards, BAFTAs and TONYs in New York. His breakthrough play was fantastic - Behold the Sons of Ulster Marching to the Somme. His most famous was Someone Who'll Watch Over Me...

Tonight was called Gates of Gold, this was the Press night. Synopsis: Founders of the famous Abbey theatre, Dublin, an actor and a director, who have been in a long, gay relationship, with multiple betrayals, infidelities, hatreds and enduring love. And now the actor is dying. Very witty, good dialogue, but the emotional level kept pretty low by theatrical campery, until near the end when the imminent tragedy is revealed.

Lot of gay men in the audience clearly enjoying it. I was less sure. My least favourite of the plays I've seen by him.

I also went for a touch of the Irish tonight. Dug out and watched the original Riverdance from the Point Theatre in Dublin. A positive feast of the blarney with one of my all-time favourite females Jean Butler of the flashing legs. Flatley was apparently a grade A prat in real life, but he was a master showman with this. The subsequent Lord of The Dance and Gold went slowly away from the true Irish dance and became the Michael Flatley Show, but the original was a feast of great music, dance and entertainment. Filled a couple of hours nicely.

Clip from the real original which was just an interval filler when Ireland staged the Eurovision in 1994. Oh for some of that energy.

The Apprentice - :D

The boys looked like a decent team to be fair. Their leader, Howard, was a bit of a tit, but he had a decent strategy - half the boys were on car washing - time consuming, costly on the budget, but the highest rewarding. The rest were on shoe shining - low cost, decent returns. In the end they managed their budget and time well (apart from their first car obv) whereas the girls didn't. I thought Mona was going to cry every time she opened her mouth.

Great stuff.
