The greatest EVER...............Die Hard movie, 1,2,3 or 4?

Post by Soldier_Of_The_White_Army » Tue Apr 21, 2009 9:40 am

Did the Die hard marathon yesterday and found it harder then I thought to actually choose which I believed to be the best one. Which I guess is the biggest compliment to the people that made them.

Was wondering which you found to be the best one?

The first (due in no small part to Rickman). For me all else was downhill.

The 2nd because it had the Grim Reaper from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey as the main bad guy.

Add a poll!

I like the original best, though 'With a Vengance' is good thanks to Samuel L Jackson and Jeremy Irons being in the mix.

In fact, when I saw that film at the cinema the sound didn't work for the first few minutes. In the opening scene SPOILER a bomb goes off. Someone in the audience covered for the silence though by shouting BANG!

Number one, because Alan Rickman is brilliant. Enjoy them all though.

My favourite bit of 4 is where Bruce jumps off a bridge and lands on the wing of an aeroplane. Highly plausible!

Number 1, hands down, though the rest are all good films.

A main downside to 4.0 was the casting of the guy from Dodgeball as McClane's sidekick. There is a scene SPOILER where he basically falls from a walkway and on his way to the floor hits about 4 or 5 iron bars, with the soundtrack of him whining "ow!". I couldn't help but laugh as it just reminded me of the guy throwing wrenches at him in Dodgeball.

Aye but his daughter is pretty nice in 4.0!

1 and 3 equal......2.......4. In that order. The gaps are for gulfs in quality. I really can't seperate between the original and With A Vengeance - both are cracking films. With A Vengeance is slick, clever and has the best cast, and 1 announces the arrival of a very good character. Rickman is magnificent in 1, but Irons blows him out of the water in 3.

2 is pretty good, but suffers from Sequel Syndrome horribly in places - especially where the SPOILER airport receptionist tries the worst attempt at pulling Mcean ever committed to celluloid.

4 jumps the shark for me.

J ohn McLean is easily the best action hero. Willis should have really clean shoes from the licking Stallone, Seagal and Schwarzenegger should give them.

You include Seagal on that list??

You know nothing. Nothing at all.

Seagal is not merely an action hero - he is one of the greatest actors of all time. Up there with DeNiro, Gielgud, and Bruce Campbell.

Has Willis ever appeared in a film as good as Under Siege 2? No. He hasn't. Because Under Siege 2 is the second best film of all time. Beaten only by Under Siege - which, you may note, Seagal was also in.

He's just a cook, you know...

Pah. Willis better than Seagal, indeed... I don't know....

Stallone suffered from sequelitis both in the Rocky and Rambo series. Schwartzeneger is Schwartzeneger and True Lies was a far better movie than all the Terminator and Commando things. Segal is an awful actor and his invincibility has become boring. Jeremy Irons is a great straight actor, but Rickman is totally superb in all areas, even in his role in Jane Eyre. His Sherrif of Nottingham is the stuff of legend: "Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas". Fantastic.

All just in my opinion of course.

Tenner for all 4.

Nearly beats the complete Lethal Weapon box set I got for a fiver!

This! Also not any mere mortal can grow hair like that, let alone pull it off whilst acting marvellously and certainly not looking ridiculous. HERO!
