I have no particular views on Southampton as a club & used to quite admire that they stayed in the top league for 27 or so years.
Certainly the Strachan exit was not dealt with well & they've never really recovered. Maybe there was more to it than met the eye. Then again, he did decide to drop Kevin Cyril Davies not just from the team, but the whole squad on their 2003 FA Cup Final day. He seemed to think that Brett Ormerod, Fabrice Fernandez (!!) and Jo Tessem (??) were better options.
The Rupert Lowe years became a fiasco. The Clive Woodward appointment was a farce & things have simply gone from bad to worse.
What I cannot look on without a negative view is the current bllx being tried on to say that it's the holding company which is in administration, not the club, so they should escape the FA rules on this. In that the FA's decision yesterday is entirely correct. As is the action which prevents clubs deciding which season they'll take their 10 point penalty. Leeds tried that 3 years ago & were rightly told where to go.
It is a lesson to be learnt however ... how NOT to handle a football club and just how far you can fall if you cock it up.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

very true, didnt they get a parachute payment when they got relegated though? its a shame because teams dont seem to recover from administration, and bad board dealings is harsh on fans, but i suppose they were getting relegate anywaysBWFC_Insane wrote:17M or whatever it was, dissapears very quickly in football, what with wage bills, paying interest on loans, paying off debts, generally running the club.Frandsen08 wrote:weres the walcott bunce??

Yes you get parachute payments for 2 years after you go down, but the 8M or so you get does not compensate for the 30M or so you lose in revenue. And thats without working out losses on ticket sales, merchandise, sponsorship etc that will inevitably happen on relegation!Frandsen08 wrote:very true, didnt they get a parachute payment when they got relegated though? its a shame because teams dont seem to recover from administration, and bad board dealings is harsh on fans, but i suppose they were getting relegate anywaysBWFC_Insane wrote:17M or whatever it was, dissapears very quickly in football, what with wage bills, paying interest on loans, paying off debts, generally running the club.Frandsen08 wrote:weres the walcott bunce??
Going down right now is not an option for anyone who has been paying premiership wages and fees. The likes of West Brom will be OK as they have budgeted to go straight back down (they've spent very little and kept a tight wage bill).

I thought they only paid about £7m up front with a further £5m to be paid on International Caps, titles and appearances?BWFC_Insane wrote:17M or whatever it was, dissapears very quickly in football, what with wage bills, paying interest on loans, paying off debts, generally running the club.Frandsen08 wrote:weres the walcott bunce??

so is it fair to say that out of all the teams looming over the trap door, it could be more disastorous for the geordies??BWFC_Insane wrote:Yes you get parachute payments for 2 years after you go down, but the 8M or so you get does not compensate for the 30M or so you lose in revenue. Definately. Particularly if, as has been reported, the players contracts didn't have relegation clauses put into them.Frandsen08 wrote:so is it fair to say that out of all the teams looming over the trap door, it could be more disastorous for the geordies??BWFC_Insane wrote:Yes you get parachute payments for 2 years after you go down, but the 8M or so you get does not compensate for the 30M or so you lose in revenue.
