Surely they would need the consent of the opposing team to show the game?blurred wrote:No, they'd show all the home games of the big-four, so they'd get 19 games a season from Anfield, Old Trafford, etc, not just when they played each other. And the other clubs would be incredibly stupid to turn down revenue in such a ridiculous fit of pique, and would negotiate their own deals with whichever supplier they wanted.thebish wrote:hmm - but if all the other clubs refused to have the cameras in for the "big-four" games (as they would be pefectly in their rights to do) then the "big four" would only have the games they played against each other to bargain with as far as the premiership goes. it might cut off their own noses to spite their faces - but it would certainly give less games for the big four to reap rewards from....

Answer's halfway down
But how your lot could have used a flat-track bully at home against Stoke, Fulham, West Ham, Hull and Man City...

Oh the difference those ten points woulda made

No, that's not how it works. Nobody refuses to play at the Bernebeu because they have a deal with a different broadcaster to Real...H. And a refusal to play a game would probably be a breach of Premier League rules, anyway.

And you can't be a Premier League team without consenting to the competition rules, which would have adequate provision for different broadcasters were the contracts to be negotiated separately, as they are in Spain, Italy, etc.H. Refusing to play would constitute a breach of the rules.
Aye, but then surely you'd need a vote on the competition rules, unless that provision is already there, which it may be, I don't know.blurred wrote:And you can't be a Premier League team without consenting to the competition rules, which would have adequate provision for different broadcasters were the contracts to be negotiated separately, as they are in Spain, Italy, etc.H. Yes, I'm told he stayed in the Hilton - must be en route to Madrid (apparently via LA).hoboh2o wrote:I am led to believe there is a rumour doing the rounds that Ronaldo spent last night "in Paris"!
Is the Madrid deal being hijacked?

Because some of the taxes paid by the other 83% go to Madrid.

It is already up to the home side to decide on TV scheduling issues - see Sir Alex Ferguson insisting that the Villa game earlier this year be played on a Sunday, despite having a Tuesday draw in the Champions League, because he wanted the extra day's rest ahead of that game. It's up to the home side under the current broadcasting regulations, no reason why it'd be any different under the new arrangements. Not that it's ever going to happen, of course, because I doubt the majority of sides would vote for it at a PL AGM.Prufrock wrote:Aye, but then surely you'd need a vote on the competition rules, unless that provision is already there, which it may be, I don't know.blurred wrote:And you can't be a Premier League team without consenting to the competition rules, which would have adequate provision for different broadcasters were the contracts to be negotiated separately, as they are in Spain, Italy, etc.H. O.k. it's the Sun but Mr. Blatter thinks there is no problem with an m80 transfer despite the financial crisis. Now here is a man ready to tackle the tough problems facing football. Wonder if he would have commented if the transfer was the other way round.

Perhaps we'll find out:blurred wrote:Why not? It'd be nice for Benitez to just laugh down the phone at them. Or perhaps accept the offer and get Gerrard and Torres to do it personally. I think Gerrard would probably stay out of loyalty, but your number 9 would be on his way to Old Trafford before you can say "Fernando José Torres Sanz."BBC wrote:Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to use some of the £80m raised by the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to launch a shock raid for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.
