Tell me who is worth £17million, the football world is just crazy! No-one is worth that much, cap transfer fees at £2million!.....I can only dream

That makes the assumption Ronaldo is 'worth' 80million. Hellova player, but best part of two Zidanes, even with inflation, naaaaaah.

It is amusing that Perez has learnt exactly nil from his last go.

Chelsea have matched Liverpool's bid for Johnson:

This is one year after paying a similar fee for Bosingwa. Think they'd sell us Paulo Ferreira?

They sold him to Portsmouth for £4m not so long ago. WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS.

Also, Bosingwa must be all like wtf.

Chelsea appear to have the policy of buying players for the bench just to keep them away from other teams. Cynical but it appears to be true when you look at the size of their squad.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Apparently Bayern Munich are going after him.

I think that used to be true - see Wright-Phillips, Shaun. Now I think that the constant managerial shuffling is just taking its toll and resulting in a lack of a coherent plan. Scolari wanted Bosingwa, Ancelotti (or Abramovich) wants Johnson.

I'm agreeing with the American rather than Australian jury. LFS signed a couple of familiar faces from the Portuguese squad and wanted to recreate his Brazil style of rampaging fullbacks on both sides; noting that Chelsea didn't have a suitable right-back he paid rampantly over the odds for a Porto right-back. Not the first time Chelsea have done it - see Mourinho giving his old team a rather large cheque for the aforementioned and rather average Ferreira, P.

In the things are worth what people are willing to pay for them, then yes. But is Ronaldo really three times better than Torres, or twice as good as Zidane was? I've always been a fervent opponent of the 'when I were a lad, players went for a tenner and a fish supper and it's immoral' argument, and I still am, but to smash, and I mean SMASH the world record fee (their own world record fee it might be stressed) twice in a week, is faintly ridiculous, particularly in the current climate.

Arsenal sign Thomas Vermuhauahuelen from Ajax for an undisclosed fee.

Apparently he is 5'9, which for a centre back could be a disadvantage. Though there seem to be varying descriptions of his height.

How can everyone EXCEPT Arsene Wenger understand that Arsenal need some experience, some height, and some strength? Vermaelen (who is 5'11" according to Wikipedia) is only 23 and has only played in in a second-tier league. Earth to Frenchman: this is NOT Football Manager.

i think all this money in football is an absolute joke seriously.

heres bolton trying to survive premierleague football off free transfers, struggling to fork out 10 mil for velosso.

then teams like city just rub it in by buying players* the quality of santa cruz for 18 million

Santa Cruz is obviously a good player in the air, but after that I'm sorry he's not that great. They can go waste 18million on him, only problem is that means Blackburn will have some to play with.

Football money is crazy, and I'm sick of it but you can't do teams for wanting the highest fee they can get. Therefore I'm all for the squad size idea, would allow the quality players to be spread out more, making it more equal. It wouldn't be a detriment to the big teams finances either, though along with the squad size there needs to be a maximum wage cap brought in as well, across the globe. This would stop players asking for more money as they now the rest of money isn't being used on the lesser players in the team. In fact theres a lot FIFA and the FA could do, but will they I doubt it.

Anyway rant over, now to transfers, so far I'd not take any of the large signings right now, their fees are crazy, I'd rather stick to Sean Davis and watch him obliterate the league on his own next year :D

United have announced that Tevez WILL be leaving the club. Final decision or another ploy to get him to accept a final offer? While there quotes from his advisers I could find no quotes from Tevez himself. The favourites are now Man City but reported interest from Chelsea and Liverpool. If true all we need is for Vidic to leave and the PL could be quite interesting next season.
