There are bad parent in the world though FD who really don't care about such things.

The fact that he was not right in the head was going to mean that he was always going to be a magnet for those few or far betweens. Just look at the Arvizo accusations he didn't pay out of court for. A parent who had pretty much purposely let her child be in his company to get money out of him at a later date, whether he'd done something or not. Would a good parent do that?

So goes to figure that a bad parent would accept $22m to settle out of court as well.

You are talking about SEXUAL ASSAULT on a child, and that the parent is willing to accept a payment for such a crime, that makes them pratically complicit in the act for me.,

Also, it's not about princibles, I'm a father, there is NO money on earth that would pay me off for somone abusing my child. Even if I could accept my child would need therapy and we'd be rich, I could never live with the guilt of letting that person go free.
Whether he went free or not would be entirely beyond your control. In the first place you would have allowed your child to be in that position (which I am sure you personally would not have done). Your child would have to testify (which would be extremely traumatic). His lawyer would be a lot better than the DA. He would probably get off because there would be reasonable doubt. So you would have put your child through a further horrible experience and got nothing. Nor achieved anything. I wouldn't dismiss a settlement quite frankly and I have four children. If I could be guaranteed of a trial result it might be different, but I would think long and hard before putting my child on the stand, especially for cross-examination.

But what if it isn't there?

I just looked, and it leaps straight from Mercury Rev to Michael Moorcock and The Deep Fix.

I'm stuffed.

S'what I meant squire, tis a Franky Boyle-ism. And if anyone ever did look rapey, it was Mr Jackson. Him ageing would have been weiiiiiiiirrrrd.

And Puskas, what would happen then is you'd be my radio DJ of choice. I quite like Jackson, but I must have heard his entire back catalogue at least three times today. That and idiots and their reckonings. I don't care what they think. A bloke, albeit talented died, can we have less of a media shitstorm, and less of that scourge of modern times, collective grief.

Not particularly a fan of his music but it was harmless none offensive pop; despite growing up in the 80s where it was all around me. There's no denying he was very talented, shrewd and brilliant at what he did.

But I thought he was a weirdo and sometimes acted like a tosser (dangling his kid over that balcony for example).

Plus I'm of the opinion that while he was innocent of the accusations levelled at him there is still something fishy and extremely disturbing about the whole sorry affair.

However, I'm shocked at how I reacted to the news. Honestly, I was a bit shaken up by it all at first. Genuinely saddened and I don't even know why; like I said I wasn't particularly a fan of his. Once again the poor kids now grow up without their father.

Worst thing now though will be the aftermath. All kinds of stories will come out, and the media will drag this one out for months. This decade's Diana.

Yeah. Despite being one of the biggest selling artists ever he still managed to spend it quicker than it was coming in. Unbelievable.

Or he had an army of advisors who spent it for him Hoss?

The guy's nothing in my life. I thought he was a good entertainer but beyond that he was just a media darling grade A. That along with a looming $40mil lawsuit and the money he'd have no doubt had to pay out had he decided he was unable to do the London shows, will keep both the suicide and "He faked his own death and I saw him in Tesco in West Bromwich" theories going for a while yet.

Like I said, even though I didn't know him, I do think the whole thing is horribly sad. He influenced tons of artists, made millions of people happy with his music, and ended up broke and fecking miserable.

I heard that he had recently passed a fitness test so that Lloyds would insure him against problems with the London (I think) show.

100% on. Something went wrong with his internal wiring. So much talent, yet as Tom has said, never ever looked happy. His father has a lot to answer for.

You see, the twisted part of my brain has actually reacted in a way to think "thank the Lord this has outdone Jade". The cynical part of my brain has said "yet another day for the mawkish to mourn - it didn't take long for the Diana analogies to surface". The reasonable part of it has said "50's no age, he might have been a freakshow with a lot of dodgy innuendo going on, but at least you can see why he was a massive influence on a lot of lives".

Incidentally, is every death of a "modern popular culture" celebrity going to be met by the "new Diana" stuff? We had it with Jade Goody, who served up nothing more than to show those with independent thought how crass and shallow the nation had become. Now we have it with Michael Jackson, a highly influential figure whose massive flaws and alleged serious crimes were swept under a dove-covered carpet by goggle eyed sycophants and faux worshippers seriously giving him a God complex. And is it more crass to be easy with the fact that people are going "right, we thought the premature death of someone famous in a car crash was big, 'ow's about THIS one for rolling out the News channels?!" and trying to make a living out of it, than it is to actually be dishing out blanket coverage of someone's death?

Shame really, he's had his life shortened by being f*cked about by some shoddy parenting, too much too young, the 'trial by media' and whatever else has happened that was behind his behaviour.

I'm niot convinced there was an evil bone in his body, and I'm happy to leave it like that.

He made great music loved by all.

C'est la vie.

You've got to fill the airwaves with something to fill peoples heads with for them to come back for more. Its a virtuous circle.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
