I'm sure that they'd reported something about City making a 'stratospheric offer' yesterday? The mind may be playing tricks though.

For some reason I was under the impression that the deal had already gone through.

It's a bit weird when you think that he can score 36 goals in a season and still end up being surplus to requirements...but I suppose having Lionel Messi in the team does that.
To be honest, me (and many) question Guardiola's sanity in wanting to get rid of a guy that has consistently netted 20+ goals almost every season he's been with us. But I  Guardiola right now so he could play his grandmother upfront if he wanted and I would still think he's right.

I assume the fact that Eto'o is 29 next year, and finishing his contract, makes him think of cashing in now and fund a replacement (Villa) with that money. Eto'o has also a very difficult character, and he probably wants somebody a bit less troublesome.

There's also the matter of the African Cup next year, which means we could lose him up to 2 months from January.

They had the yellow ticker and swooshing noises at 11.20 this morning, so they're obviously desperate for something to happen and regurgitating yesterday's speculation today.

Either that, or I'm lying. People tell me so many things nowadays that I don't know what's right or wrong anymore.

They are going to lose Tevez, so are taking the risk that Berbatov is going to fit into the role better this season. Their midfield has not looked good without Ronaldo on the pitch for quite a while. I am sure they will do everything to rectify that situation but at present and with a few injuries to be expected, unless Hargreaves has a miraculous recovery I can see them having some serious problems.
I'd like to hope that was the case, but - been there before and it hasn't panned out according to the plan, so not building my hopes up. They have a pretty good record of getting rid of players who are performing for them and replacing them with others who fill the gap. RVN didn't have too bad a season when they got rid of him, Beckham was playing well when they shunted him etc. etc.

Hear what you're saying about (predominantly) their midfield. They still won the Prem and got to the CL final and have finds available to buy players in. I'm not pronouncing (unfortunately) the last rites just yet.

Theres something up at Man U, all the players want out, especially the back up one who want first team footy. Red nose might have a problem this year.

Ronaldo's transfer has landed a fat purse on Ferguson's lap, and given his track record I think he'll spend it decently. Next year's premier league is certainly going to be more interesting, but I just can't see ManU dropping from the CL places.

"If there is not a 180-degree turnaround" then he will stay with Barcelona," Eto'o's representative told ONA FM.

What will happen with Villa then?

Probably means that Villa will stay at Valencia or more likely move elsewhere.

Barcelona aren't going to pay the cash unless they sell first.

Eto'o's agent is only too aware he's free to talk to teams in January.

Word is that Eto'o wants a 10 million sign on fee, if he doesn't get it now, he'll get it next year.

According to Spanish reports, Eto'o is unhappy with the way that he is seemingly being forced out by Barca and he could decide to stay in a bid to upset the club's plans.

This scenario would then allow him to leave the Spanish giants on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling next summer.
I retract my previous statement, I now see EXACTLY why Guardiola wants to get rid of him.

Didn't say they would have a problem with the league but with players in house. Not especially the Ronaldo fiasco but a few more little nagging things have popped up and I can see some players becoming restless.

Anyway just while I'm here saw this on vital

This is a pet peeve I have, there's no such thing as leaving "under the Bosman ruling" in Spain. Players had been able to leave their clubs when their contracts are up long before that (the same law is the reason we have release clauses, by default a Spanish worker is allowed to leave his employer at any time).

I heard reports of 200k per week, but that the fee won't be that large (in comparison to others) because Barcelona just want shut.

Yes, he is. But his personality is a big part of his game, actually. His big ego drives him in the pitch (unlike others whose ego only drives them off the pitch).

Have to say I've never quite go the hype that goes with Eto'o. Not that he's a bad player, not even close, but like Ibrahimovic, whenever I watch him I never quite seem to get quite what all the fuss is about.

Put it this way, there's rumours Mr Drogba could be on his way out of Chelsea, and he'd be waaaaaay higher on my list if I were Mark Hughes. Not to say he hasn't tried and we don't know mind.

Ibrahimovic has something about him that just gets him into a position to finish with some part of his body. Pace isn't an asset, strength is only a small part, but there's an instinctive part of his game that gets him there to score goals. Even his first touch isn't that good. Eto'o does have pace, but it's the way he can change direction before the ball gets to him that sets him apart from most other strikers. Not 100% sure what to do when the ball's at his feet, despite the first goal in the Champions League final. Almost a taller version of Owen without the ability to head the ball, for me.

Both strikers can be stopped if their wingers can be stopped. Service, and all that.
