Strauss (C), Cook, Bopara, Pietersen, Collingwood, Prior (W), Flintoff, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Onions

Team as expected. Monty dropped for Onions. Convicts unchanged.

Not happy batting first. New game, new ball, nobody knowing how the pitch will play. Put ourselves under immediate pressure instead of them. Not my choice.

Dunno which captain put it like this, but its something like, 'you either decide straight away to bat first, or, think about bowling, then bat first'

You win the toss, you bat

If your batters aren't good enough, it doesn't make it the wrong decision

Lords is a batting pitch, so makes sense - even Ricky P said he would've batted. The only thing that can give em hope is that there is a whiff of cloud which could help with the ball swinging.

beat you by a minute, Caps

Has to be pretty exceptional circumstances to bowl first, sometimes found in the Windies with the movement of the tides maybe.

Great start. Just got to keep going until lunch with no more than 1 down. Make hay in the afternoon when the new ball and early morning conditions have gone.

Bat first, put yourself in a position whereby you can't lose, then worry about winning it.

Please England, just occupy the crease, for feck* sake.

Glad to be wrong, but it appears the Aussie attack is less than delightful, especially to Ponting. Keep it up and to hell with predictions.

We need 650 to 700 mid Sat morning to try and win this otherwise it has draw written all over it.

If we've batted that long on the wicket, it would be folly to think the Aussies won't be able to.

Seen the weather forecast for tomorrow? Be lucky to make it on to the pitch, never mind bat the day through.
