Yeah but Ibrahimovic @ 3 euros a letter is way better for shirt sales...boltonboris wrote:That is the most baffling swap ever! We'll give you millions, plus Eto'o for a player who's nowhere near as good as him, even more big headed and refuses to run..Bruno wrote:Eto'o and Ibrahimovic swap nearing completion with the Cameroonian (?) chap agreeing terms with Eeenter.

I suppose he could let him off, just this onceBruno wrote:44 goals last season tends to allow you back into the good books!

Interesting stat on that optajoe thing DSB posted - Eto'o took nearly 1/4 chances last season, whereas Zlatan took only 18% of his. Heh.

i dare not believe it could be true...supposedly joining us in preference to Hamburg or Everton, he's a feckin Albanian animal of the first order.
Watch that clunt redknap open his gob and screw it up.

The Ibrahimovic/Eto'o deal baffles me. Then again, our DoF is useless and hasn't done an astute signing since we got Deco for peanuts 5 years ago. Thank God we had Messi/Xavi/Iniesta coming through our ranks, plus it doesn't take much brain to pay big money to get people like Henry and Alves.
I personally don't mind replacing Eto'o with another forward. Eto'o's very troublesome and also this year we are (again) losing him 2 months due to the African Cup. He will be 29 and on his last year of contract. Even with his great past performance, I don't think we could depend on him for more than another year of delivering his beastly figures. However, paying 45m on top of Eto'o for Ibrahimovic is absolutely moronic deal-brokering. Inter probably can't believe their luck with us agreeing to such an utterly daft deal.
Really, I'm sure Moratti was taking the piss.
-"Ibrahimovic? Oh yeah, you can have him for 45mil... and Eto'o!... and Hleb!"
-"Deal"
-"What????"
Commenting on Eto'o vs Ibrahimovic in the purely sporting side of things. Ibrahimovic brings to the table a higher degree of technique that will help us in our buildup. Eto'o was very limited on that regard. He lost the ball easily, and couldn't offer much more than a backpass if he didn't get the ball on the box or running forward. Ibrahimovic also adds something that we utterly lack: a target man. Messi's CL goal notwithstanding, there isn't a single attacking player in our squad that can head a ball to save his life, or play with his back to the goal. Yes, we play the ball on the floor, but having the possibility to add another dimension would help when we get trapped in physical games. Really, when Racing Santander sets those two lines of four 6'5" lumberjacks, I will like to be able to put a player like Ibrahimovic on the pitch, tall and strong.
Eto'o, however, was a more direct player, which was a refreshing complement to our intrincate midfield play (which sometimes can get bogged down in a slow tempo). He also brought pressure in the opposition's third, which has been something very valuable to us. His aggresiveness in the pitch is something I'm really afraid of losing.
Overall different players, but I can see Ibrahimovic performing well in our side. I really doubt it would reach Eto'o's level, though.

Without knowing the job spec of Barca's Director of Football, it's a question I feel is valid. Wasn't it the DoF's over-riding responsibility for the development of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta? If not directly, he's the one in charge of getting the coaches in to nurture such talents, and to get them indoctrinated into the Barca ways, is he not? Or is it different in this case? Who is it, by the way?Village_Idiot2 wrote:The Ibrahimovic/Eto'o deal baffles me. Then again, our DoF is useless and hasn't done an astute signing since we got Deco for peanuts 5 years ago. I agree with what you say re: Ibrahimovic, by the way. They are like for like in that they are natural goalscorers, but Ibrahimovic gives you an extra dimension as you've described. I reckon Ibrahimovic has a similar level of aggression that Eto'o has. It's not often you see him marked out of a game, put it that way. I can see him doing very well, albeit not this season. But I still want, hope and think you to win the Champions League. 40/1 double on you and Spain in the world cup.

Our DoF is Txiki Begiristain, cracking forward from the times of Johan Cruyff as coach. He probably had the best first touch in Spain.KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote: Without knowing the job spec of Barca's Director of Football, it's a question I feel is valid. Xavi/Iniesta/Messi were already on the first team when he got in charge (well, Messi was in our feeder squad). He can sign players everybody would sign for big amounts of money, and all his lesser known gambles / promising players haven't really worked for the most part. What pisses me off is his inability to resell players at adequate prices. Case in point: we gave out Thiago Motta for 1mil a couple seasons ago, and now Genoa is selling him for 12mil. Or the Eto'o situation: they have talked his sale so much, and made it so obvious that we want to get rid of him, that his value has diminished greatly.
Thanks for the good wishes. I hope they come true!
