Are Labour even trying anymore? Have they all got bets on Cameron now? Is this matchfixing?
The fundamental aim of reducing traffic and pollution is a good one, but taxing people for going to bloody work? Jesus wept.
People in 4x4's should be shot, unless they are farmers, or other people who actually need them. Having a steep drive does not count. People taking one kid to school in a massive car even though their neighbours kids go to the same school should be shot. People getting aggravated over whether or not climate change, note not global warming, a term no serious scientist has used for years, but climate change, is man-made should be shot. All that matters is whether or not we can stop it. Until we are sure, not turning the skies into a dirty great oven and using up all the FINITE old is surely a good idea? It's not just petrol we get from oil. Imagine how f*cked a modern world without plastic would be.
As for India and China, if we want them to clean up their act, we should pay for it.

To pick up on what someone has said in all this drivell.
I would happily use public transport, if it could get me to work at 5.45 in the morning and get me home again at 6pm, but it cant.
If I want to go by bus I would have to get Two of them and One only runs by the hour.
So I am forced to run Two cars (me and Mrs duk) at a cost of £1000 per year each.
Public Transport needs to be improved, and in place before the majority of people can switch from private to public.
Again the solution seems to be.....
Price them of the road.

You get off lightly there. I travel by public transport and for the pleasure of it I pay the princely sum of £4,680 per annum, give or take a couple of pennies...davroduk wrote:To pick up on what someone has said in all this drivell.

And you can f*ck right off with that statement!! I'd go the other way and get all western nations NEVER to help them and let them continue their peasant farming days. What I don't get is why people who want to spread love and peace and humanity along with our trade and jobs think everyone has the same mind set? Feck um it was our skills that developed our countrys who taught us? why should we give it to them to nick our way of life?
Selfish? some may think so but unless you are an out and out bible basher show me where its enshrined as gospel we should pay for their developement so they can rob our jobs!!!

are you sure that it was purely our skills and (presumably) superior intelligence and work ethic that established the wealth of the West? If you really believe that - then perhaps you should read a bit more history...
Our skills allowed explorers to visit other parts of the world, allright we robbed a few of them so what? it happened so long ago who cares? Does that mean we have to keep feeling sorry for the actions of our forebearers? keep shelling out dosh as a way purging our perceived guilt? Should the Japs and Germans keep paying everyone in 100+ years for the wars?thebish wrote:hoboh2o wrote: And you can f*ck right off with that statement!! Why should I or anyone else pay to appease the souls of others who simply cannot get over it even though they were never involved just to ease their morals?
I'm all for learning from the past and then moving on, I have no wish unless I give my word, to look after someone elses family never mind someone elses bloody country!
Given all the moral do-gooders have done is to screw up the youth of this country generation by generation with their liberalism, think fine thoughts about saving foxes, the planet, womens rights in the middle East (joke) whilst others pick up the tab for their gand schemes, these are the real enemy of a stuctured, safe, prosperous society!

I didn't mean through colonial guilt, something I am very much against. I meant we have had hundreds of years of industry which have massively advanced our country, and got a developed economy. Can't really turn round to other people wanting to do the same and say, er sorry. there's some polar bears dying, you'll have to stay in the middle ages. It's up to us having benefitted to find ways to cut pollution and then help them use them.hoboh2o wrote:Our skills allowed explorers to visit other parts of the world, allright we robbed a few of them so what? it happened so long ago who cares? But it's irrelevant. All that matters is 'is it happening?' and 'if so, how do we sort it?'. If it turns out we can fix it because it is man made, so cutting polliution, then great, if it turns out it isn't man made, but we can fix it, then great. Whoa Pru lad, put that weapon down. Can't preach anti-war and be waving a rifle about now, can we?
Putting the world to rights is a rather hard task. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. How about we make a start by getting our own house in order? We're hardly a role model for anyone right now methinks. Lets address the binge-drinking and gun and knife culture amongst our own youth as a starter. Let's get our politicians addresing our economy, job-losses and people losing their homes through economic disorder instead of taking the pxxs out of us with expenses fiddles etc. Lets forget about national opinion polls that usually mean a couple of hundred Londoners who answered the question to suit the askers , and face the fact that every single person I've heard passing opinions - I'm talking level-headed work colleagues- actually think that our immigration policy is way up the wall whilst despising the B.N.P. and just facing facts. Let's stop funding homes and benefits for dissidents preaching hate on our doorsteps and concentrate on looking after the truly needy. Lets even forget patting ourselves on the back for historical achievement, stop rhyming on about the "sins of our fathers", get off our soapboxes and accept a few home truths.
We are all as much to blame as the next man. Unions allowing pay strikes at a time like this because we expect a living wage to pay for two cars, three televisons and food enough to fill a family of Golightlys' daily. This at a time when job cuts are putting more and more strain on both the population and the social services. Let's get shopkeepers putting standard price tags on things instead of playing "think of a number" when you go to pay.(Sixty fxxking pence one guy asked me, for a packet of Polo mints a couple of days ago" Looked at me in disgust when I put it back and walked out)
What can we do about all this? Gee, I haven't a clue, and I'm not sure I can really do a single thing perosnally, but surely that's why we have a government isn't it? I know, let's take the bus passes back off the pensioners, they should be able to manage okay. There, that's a start isn't it. Er, right. Means test on the pensioners next. Fxxk the fact that dentists can make three-hundred grand a year by going private. More privatisation is the answer surely? Lets fine a few folk for putting their bins out too early (only this week mine stood out all day Tuesday. When the council were asked why, "Oh, er a waggon broke down. They're on their way". They came at tea-time to just our road) But surely, that's a fining offence isn't it? Ah, no, only when the counci decide.
The point is, our country has become a joke to be telling anyone at all what they should be doing. Let's actually stop preaching bonhommie and face a few cold-hard facts. The polar bears can get in the queue behind the rest in the reality line up. Carry on as we are and before too long, hope a few countries will hold pop concerts to help us out.
I'm as charitable as the next man when ever I can afford to be. My eyesight is also failing. Not quite enough yet though to be totally blind to the truth. I'm also aware this post won't find much favour with some. Blame Deadeye Pru and his Sharps buffalo rifle.

Well, you see WTW, if you'd come back at me with the pitch about turning blind eyes ( grumpy old men etc, which you did? Are Grumpy young and middle-aged men excused or just considered right about everything?) I'd have come back with some of that truth I mentioned. Call it rant if you will, but deny it not, something like:William the White wrote: OK - the pitch is promising, but we already have this programme called grumpy old men...

My relevant contribution is almost fifty-five years of working and paying taxes, never costing the Health Service f-all since I've never spent a night in a hospital bed (would have been easy to do at times) and I'm still working and paying taxes. On top of that I don't owe anybody a penny having paid all the extortionate interests back to mortgages, loans etc. My hard won bus pass is worth a half its use since it only comes into operation after nine-thirty (long after I've gone to work) and I pay my council tax on time. I expect nothing from anybody except what I provide and just every now and then get a bit pxxsed at sermons on how we should help the world. I do help the world.
The world isn't full of good-hearted mankind. There's an equal proportion of free-loading grabbers who don't give one and just care about number one. A fair proportion of those blatantly exploit every avenue of law-breaking and chicanery while the rest of us are told of our duties to mankind. Been there, done it and don't want or need the lectures. An opinion isn't always to be classed as a rant just because sometimes the truth hurts a little.
All done now. ssssssssssssssssssss. better. A one off, and I'm not attempting to defend my views, just stating them.

Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

Are Grumpy young and middle-aged men excused or just considered right about everything?) I'd have come back with some of that truth I mentioned. Call it rant if you will, but deny it not, something like:William the White wrote: OK - the pitch is promising, but we already have this programme called grumpy old men...
Have you thought about doing it nude?
There's this comedy channel looking for post-midnight material, and i could talk to...

I'm feeling grumpy myself, at the lack of revolutionary socialists that seemed to be all over the place in my youth... Where the feck did they go? Did i misplace them?
Down the back of the sofa, maybe? Retired to California? Died of a heroin overdose? (The last two accurate, btw...)
