There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Regardless of Johnson's footballing merits, we needed a right back as Rafa would only have been too acutely aware that Arbeloa was fecking off to Madrid. That's why we spent the cash (more than he wanted/thought was justified, but hey) to bring him in.

I wonder "net" how his spending stacks up to Fergies?
Ah, but does it not raise the question vis a vis how many are actually Benitez's signings? I'm doubting that Keane was, for example.
Would surprise me that Benítez would allow himself to be stepped over regarding signings. He left Valencia because of that (the infamous "I asked for a table and they brought me a lamp")

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy vetoed manager Harry Redknapp's late loan swap attempt on transfer deadline day, which involved winger David Bentley and Manchester City's Martin Petrov. Another loan swap involving Tottenham's Alan Hutton and Sunderland's Anton Ferdinand also fell through.

Oh, I do hope that Harry managed to recycle the brown envelopes! 8)

Which is why there was all the fuss in the recent contract negotiations about him being in charge of transfer policy. He wasn't at the time (Rick Parry and others above him ultimately decided), whereas now he has far more autonomy.

Apparently last summer Rick et al decided that it wasn't worth pursuing Gareth Barry for the fee quoted by Villa, yet were happy to spend more money on Robbie Keane. While I don't think for one minute that Keane wasn't on Rafa's wishlist, he was definitely not the first choice, and the fact that they refused to pay £16m or whatever it was for Barry and yet went and spent £19m on Keane pissed him off no end.

But also less cash. Do they not trust him?

No, we just don't have any cash. The yanks have had to refinance, and have got crippling interest payments. There is no money for transfers cos we're paying them for the privilege of owning us. Great, isn't it?

Not for me, I'm afraid. He wasn't good enough for the Scottish Pointless League so he might just toil a bit for Hull City.

Same.. A bit clumsy and lacks the pace required to heklp create your own chances, if he's given the ball on a plate, he'll finish them. But he won't get that many opportunities at a club like Hull

38 in 80 while playing for Celtic isn't really impressive.

One every two games. Isn't that Owen's stats?

I'd settle for that from our strikers!

He is playing in the top squad in a league where most of the opposition would have a hard time beating a pub team.

I remember that Larsson, for example, was close to 1/1 after his first season there.

You're right, a pub league would be enough.
