Derren Brown - Predicting the Lottery
Pretty good, no?
Be interesting to see how he did it. Can't say I've got much of a clue meself.

Yeah he got all 6 numbers right.
You'll be able to watch it on 4oD tomorrow if you want to, nothing amazing. Just had 6 balls on a stand and after the draw turned them around and he had them all matched.
My only explanation is that the massive cock on his forehead acts as an antenna for seeing in to the future.

That was pretty much it. Had a set of balls on a stand turned away from the camera with his prediction (staying in shot). Set up a TV showing the Lottery live on BBC1. Numbers come out, he turns round the stand and all the numbers are there.
If you've got C4+1 it'll be on again soon, and then I believe he's revealing the secret on Friday.

i think the TV screen was split in two (the shot we see of the full room) and the left half with the balls was frozen while you watch the TV with the lottery on. while it's frozen there's someone changing the balls as they're drawn, then it unfreezes as he's writting them down, to give the lachey time to move out of shot, and let them unfreeze the static left hand side of the screen showing a stand of 6 balls (only now they have numbers on them)
pretty easy to do really.
whatever his explaination is on Friday will be bollocks, and will be a precursor to something bigger, imo. still like the guy for conning loads of chavs into thinking they can win the lottery.

Camera tricks aren't how he works though

He seems to be doing lots of things to distract the viewer, mentioning irrelevent things or pointing at stuff.

consider how shaky the camera is during the filming...obviously it's trying give the impression that there's no split screen or freezing or whatever.
Then look at how still the camera is between 5.08 and 5.12...i think there must have been a switch there. And maybe he's mouthing to his assistant when he's got his mouth over his hand in "anticipation"
ooh speculation.

"Young people, nowadays, imagine money is everything."
"Yes, and when they grow older they know it."

Just watching that back, he says he can't show you the numbers because Camelot said that the BBC have a legal right to show them first. He's obviously using the 'legal' term so that people will believe it, and he could show us his numbers because he isn't actually telling us them officially, I could show you my guess and the police wouldn't come knocking on my door.
So yeah, lots of things said to make you think that the numbers are already on the balls, not 100% how he got the correct ones on there though.

y'see - there's the clue... I don't know how he did it - and I didn't watch it - but if he wanted to persuade me that he had predicted the lottery, he'd have to actually show me his prediction BEFORE the lotery draw and not after...
Yep, predicting an outcome 1 in 14 million is unlikely, making 14 million people think you did is probably easier.

I've no personal feelings for the man either way, but he's usually fairly entertaining. Loved it when he got a group of students to believe they were in a haunted house, showed how easy the powers of persuasion can be on a crowd. I wonder if big Philly G has considered him?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

indeed - absolutely - i don't disagree that's his purpose.. I'm just saying i am always turned off and lose interest when an illusionist does summat in a special box - or behind a screen - cos my mind thinks - if he can make that girl disappear - then why does he need the box? and if he can saw her in half without harming her - why does he need the box - and if he can run her through with 20 swords and not puncture her - then it would look better without the box...Tombwfc wrote:But then his act isn't, and has never been as far as I can tell, that he's a psychic who can actually predict the lottery numbers through his own miraculous gift. He just creates the illusion that he predicted them.
so i am guessing the same would be true here - guessing cos i didn't see it - but guessing that my mind would say - if he can predict the lottery then why only show me after the event - or (as others have said) why not put his money where his mouth is and buy a ticket - then claim the winnings - to prove he actually predicted the numbers in advance...
once my mind does that - however clever the illusion - I can see it is an illusion and so it ceases to entertain me...
(on a side note... I often do the trick where you stuff a red silk into your fist and make it disappear - it can be quite effective. My missus begged me to show her how it is done - I warned her that once she knew it would destroy her enjoyment of anyone ever doing it or summat similar again - but she insisted - so i showed her - and she was crushingly disappointed at how obvious and crass the trick is.... and now wishes I had never told her...)

Awww, PM it. There's a 2 1/2 year old Kebabling that'd love that. She's gobsmacked I can produce 2p coins from behind her ear.thebish wrote:indeed - absolutely - i don't disagree that's his purpose..
