Can't say as tap dancing is ever something I've been big on or interested in, but thats amazing, jaw droppingly good, especially if it is, as you say, in one fecking take!Zulus Thousand of em wrote:OK TD Glad to hear you had a good holiday.
I did a bit of searching on YouTube and I found the clip. Just cop for this little gem! Watch it all through and gasp in amazement - particularly from the 1:30 mark!

I heard on the radio, yesterday, that the BBC are showing this at the same time that ITV are showing X Factor. Not that I'll be watching either, like, but I do recognise that there are plenty that'll want to watch both, and it strikes me as there being some pathetically mean-spirited tossers at the BBC that've decided to show their show at that time. It's not like they need to appeal to advertisers or owt.

May the bridges I burn light your way

Much as I like the show, the BBC have screwed up on a few counts this time. In an attempt to gain ratings they've gone for a "family" show, pandering to parents who claim their kids should be able to watch before their beddy-bye's, whilst at the same time complaining about every harmless joke from the judges etc, that upsets their little darlings. Add to that, getting rid of an experienced judge ( Arlene Phillips) in favour of Aleisha Dixon, whos only claim to fame or dance knowlege is that she won last year's contest, and a lot of people are more than a little unhappy, particularly those who also watch X Factor. I know this from the SCD boards on the net. Badly done indeed Auntie Beeb.Bruce Rioja wrote:I heard on the radio, yesterday, that the BBC are showing this at the same time that ITV are showing X Factor. Show one and already a farce, there were three substantially weaker than Martina Hingis and this sort of shite ruins it for me, its not an enterainment show its a dancing contest....hence the title if you just want to entertain sod of to the X factor.
On a plus not the wonderful Aliona Vilani is still in, where did they find her, I'm smitten, shame her partner is shite!
oh and please bring back Arlene, miles better than that vacuous Dixon who I like but is never a judge, we can all see how pretty they look!

Unfortunately the BBC know that controversy and public voting attract more viewers than Come Dancing (which was just a dance contest) ever did. Joe Calzaghe, fine boxer though he is, dances like a man in diving boots and Linda Oxo like your auntie at a family wedding. Both should have gone before Martina Hingis and probably next week will throw up a couple more in the same category.

A lot of folk agree. Nice girl, good contestant but no technical dance knowlege at all. Agree with you there. Bring back Arlene

Not sure how you can bemoan the fact that they put some window dressing on the judges panel, when the competition is barely worthy of the name?
With the daft voting system that sends out the best ones and keeps in the Tuffnells and Sargeants in place then surely you can't complain that they really interested in making a serious programme.

In general, it's the public popularity vote ( as in last night having the dance-off couples not always the worst dancers) that makes the farcial aspect, not the judges. Aleisha, as has been stated, might be a good personality but she knows zilch about professional judging. That was the point. This was never going to be "Come Dancing" a fact I accepted after the firsat series and then when Chris "Pinochio" Parker and the like get through on public vote you just have to accept it as it is.Bruno wrote:Not sure how you can bemoan the fact that they put some window dressing on the judges panel, when the competition is barely worthy of the name?

IMO voting should be restricted to one vote per phone number instead of some daft female voting 74 times for somebody who looks good in swimming trunks.

Just stick the bottom four in the first rounds out for the vote but that would not bring in that much revenues for the BBC from phone calls would it!
Will watch the next one just to see those who have not danced yet and if the farce carries on again probably won't bother again, I can get daft silly entertainment on X Factor

Was away at the weekend, so I have just caught up with SCD, the acceptable face of soft porn... tremendous show.
What the hell are they playing at with Dixon though? If there is any programme on TV that doesn't need a bit of extra 'window dressing' then it is this one... not that that classless, cackling heap of vacuous empathy would fit the bill anyway.
And of course it's more of an 'entertainment show' than a dance contest. Why do you think there are non-dancing celebrities involved in the first place? They have to combine likability with some technical dancing - what's objectionable or farcical about that?
I haven't checked, but I doubt the odds on pre-competition favourite Joe Calzaghe are still so short!

Way way way harsh. She's not a particularly brilliant judge but hell she's pleasant, genuine, talented at what she does (dance and sing) though not my cup of tea and has made the best of herself. Don't think those comments are fair at all.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Was away at the weekend, so I have just caught up with SCD, the acceptable face of soft porn... tremendous show.

As an aside, Ali Bastian. Wowzers!

Ok, perhaps I have gone over the top because I disagree with the decision to give Arlene Philips the boot, but Dixon has nothing to add to the show. Have always found her a bit gobby and annoying though (I can't remember who it was in this thread, but how anybody can find that grating laugh endearing is beyond me); and she does nothing for me at all.

Well exactly, as if sex appeal is something we need on the judging panel. How Chris whathisname could remember his steps with Ola in that outfit last night is anyone's guess!TANGODANCER wrote:Never mind Mummy, there's always Laila Rouass and a couple of new girl professionals to drool over.
Jade Johnson to go far for my money but the public will probably screw the voting up anyway.
I agree with you about Jade, I think she'll do well. Loved Bruce's 2012 gag.

Ali Bastian was terrific for a first show, but I think she may struggle slightly in the more energetic dances... hers were both quite slow this time.
I do feel a bit for Vincent this year - going from Rachel Stevens to Natalie Cassidy is a bit hard to take! Tango, I was telling somebody about the Milonga he did with Flavia in about week 9 last year, but it's now been removed from YouTube. Do you know if it's available on the internet anywhere?

Probably copyrighted Mummy, but if it's Milonga you want, try this. Note, it's all about steps without some of the acrobatics you get in showdancing:
