Ah, see, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, that's the bit that I struggled with at first. All spoke in RP, did they? :?
Have you read the book, brucie? Absolutely brilliant, proper tear jerker toward the end. Horrendously guilty actions seen through the eyes of innocence.
The film was the stuff of nightmares. Deeply disturbing, but a film everybody should watch.
I haven't seen the film, but I can't see how it could beat the book in terms of sheer horror, anguish and disbelief. It's told through the perspective of the kommandant's son (forget his name), and reading his playful and naive takes on acts of genocide is quite something.

Likewise, I haven't read the book. Not sure I could now.

Aye. I imagine either are necessary viewing/reading, though doing both would be tough to stomach on both sides, I imagine.

Good choice!!!

anything with Bill in is good but i love Wes Anderson films anyway - Fantastic Mr Fox is flippin brilliant!!!

have you seen any of the others... Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Ltd - all quality.
I've seen Tenenbaums and Darjeeling loads and really enjoy them. I've just got round to getting through the others after borrowing them from a mate. Bottle Rocket and Rushmore are lined up for other quiet nights this week. As for Fantastic Mr Fox, I've not had the chance to catch it as it doesn't seem to be on late-ish on a Wednesday. I really want to see it though as my all time hero Jarvis Cocker is in it too!

Life Aquatic = brilliant btw!

Got my brother over from Spain for a few days so had a couple of DVD nights. Apaloosa and Hidalgo last night and tonight we watched Australia ( or Awstrylya) Seen the two Westerns before and the Aussie one was great scenic wise but all a bit predictable. Passed an hour or two.

Australia got an almost unanimous panning, and v well deserved, on this thread when it first opened. A terrible movie, total sentimental shite. I got filthy looks from the tear sodden when I laughed out loud at the ending... How could you inflict this on your brother, Mr Cain?

Possibly because, as I mentioned, I hadn't seen it previously, Mr Able.

well i wasnt blown away with The Lives of Others tbh, found it a bit slow and monotonous – still good though.

Got Harry Brown to watch tonight – looks pretty bleak and brutal, has had some great write ups.

Get the feeling if you didn’t care much for scallies, hoodies & chavs before – your gonna fooooookin hate em after this!!!

Got a couple of downloads of Zach Galifianakis doing his thing, he's very funny! probably check them out tonight?

Also got the Rhys Darby standup to watch.

been dissapointed with many of the crimbo standup vids this year - rob brydon, McIntyre, Manford, jimmy carr... all a bit shit tbh.

Jim Jeffeires & Rhod Gilbert are good tho!

Was really looking forward to Harry Brown, it is certainly very bleak, a bit ‘Nil by mouth’esq. But, the story is a load of bollocks to be fair.

strong cast though, some good acting, although im not overly keen on Michael Caine as an actor if im honest, and he’s not much good in this.

I enjoyed it, but not as much as id hoped.

Just got back from the cinema with a girl mate. She'd picked the last two films and I'd had to sit through fecking Bruno and some girly rom com shite, so was own back today and went to watch Law Abiding Citizen. I enjoyed it, it's a proper blokes film with explosions and torture and cool gadgets. Ludicrously far fetched, and certainly not a classic, but an enjoyable way to spend an evening. Gerrard Butler manages to make a ludicrous character in a mental script about as believable as possible, and Jamie Foxx is an annoyingly good actor considering he's a total twonk of a man.
