You don't have to walk them, pick up their turds and they won't savage your nipper when it comes.

When you're fed up of them you can flush them down the kharzi too!

I'll give you a tip though NEVER EVER EVER say to your wife that her maternity leave is 'time off.'

She'll cut your cock off if you say that.

Hard work kids y'know.
i say it every day, 'you ok?'... 'no'... 'well at least you dont have to go to work like me'... 'YOU FUKKING BASTARD ARRRRHGGGGHH' etc

Get a Huskie, they are awesome.

I'd go with what Zulu said and dont get one from a dogs home, you don't have a clue about their past, trust me!

Just get a puppy and Sky+ as much Dog Whisperer as you can.

Border collie mix. rescue one.

I did. it's the best thing I ever did.

Please do not get a pure breed. It just funds all the wrong things. So many healthy animals need a home, and people pay someone to mistreat, inbreed, and overpopulate "pure bred" dogs.

Well said, I work at RSPCA just walking their dogs and at times its packed out and some of the sights makes you wonder why dogs ever like people again.

All my animals came from rescue centres and never had a problem, a half decent one will have a good idea on the animal and give you lots of info

Looks more lab than border collie. but then, most people like labs better. Can't say I'd reccommend a private transaction, but if they would just end up at the pound then........

My dog cost me 150.00 USD and it was spayed with the first round of shots.

Staffies are ok with the right family, its their bloody chav owners that are the problems

Worked as a milkmans mate, in a kennels and walked dogs for RSPCA and the only bloody dogs that have ever bitten me are sodding Labradors.

Terriers are the hardest to train though and can be bloody minded.

ps a Labradoodle does not exist, its a x breed :)
Tend to disagree here for one reason. They have a small child. As you said above the biggest problems with dogs are their owners. Go with a puppy that doesn't come with the baggage, and avoid dogs breeds that tend to suffer from inbreeding.
prob with a puppy is they are a shit-load of work to housetrain and stuff - which you really don't need if you have just had a baby arrive... puppies are cute but not easy - and if you don't know what you're doing you can be in for a heck of a lot of poo-cleaning and wee-mopping and chewed furniture - not to mention having to hide all the baby toys to stop the puppy running off with them.

we have a rescue greyhound - laziest and easiest dog in all christendom - but I still wouldn't recommend one of those right at the start of a brand new baby - i'd wait til the sprog was at least one year old - you have enough of a steep learning curve as it is! (believe me!)

DON'T get a border collie - they have a VERY long adolescence - and are VERY intelligent and hence very hard work because they need lots of stimulation - if they don't get it then they can get bored easly and cause mayhem. (our family have had dozens)

I agree with Bruce - best dogs there are - but not as a first dog when u have just had a baby and haven't got the time they need....

A very sage call indeed from thebish there. I tend to forget that the border collies that we had when I was growing up were working dogs with fields to run around in and cows to round up. When I moved to domest-o-ville I bought a BC pup but was forever going getting it back from Harpurhey Pound. I used to leave it in the back garden with the shed door open (replete with bedding, food, water etc.) whilst me and the then Mrs R went to work.
Anyway, as it grew a bit bigger he realised that he could clear the fence (5ft) and go running off around the neighbourhood, usually getting picked up by the Dog Warden.
I realised that it wasn't really fair on anyone to go on like this so offered him free-to-a-good-home in the M.E.N. Bloody hell, we were inundated with calls but at least it meant that I could select who I thought would be a most suitable owner for him, and in the end gave him to a Police Dog Handler.

That's what they are called! Coolest dogs in the world. The dog in our local is one of them, everyone loves him, no trouble, fantastically trained. They are massive though, when he was a puppy, you could see the growth from one Friday to the next, but really soft, he play fights with folk and manages not to hurt you even though he's huge anbd excitable. Wicked dog.
