o.k. I've been truely insulted so I will give you a list of some of the best bands present and overall out of my country. Monty might laugh at some of my present especially since I have been out of the country for many years.
present
1. Arcade fire
2. new pornographers
3. broken social science
4. Leslie Feist
4. Constantines
Too be honest not very hip on present music and not being in Canada makes it even harder.
All time. Not all my own favourites but deserving of being on the list.
1. Neil Young
2. Joni Mitchell
3. Blood Sweat & Tears
4. The Guess Who
5. B.T.O.
6. Rush
7. Doug & the Slugs
8. Michel Pagliaro
9. The Band
10. Sloan
11. Tragically hip
12. Sara Mclaghlin
13. Leonard Cohen
14. Leon Redbone
15. Bruce Cockburn
16. 54/40
17. Nomeanno
18. D.O.A.
19. Teenage head
20. Stompin Tom Connors
21. Jerry Jerry
22. Dayglo abortions
23.Gordon Lightfoot
24. The Doughboys

This is off the top of my head, and I know I have forgotten many including the forgotten rebels.
obviously I have omitted some of the most famous simply because I can't stand them.

Cheers, Sean. I tell you, mate, I haven't looked forward to a gig quite so much since I was a teenager.seanworth wrote:Enjoy the show Bruce. Have never had the opportunity to see them, but do enjoy a lot of their music. They are probably Canada's favourite group of all time, although would need Monty to confirm it.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Friend of mine saw them in a bar in Amsterdam many years ago. He couldn't believe his luck. In Canada I would assume they mainly play stadiums. In the States I believe they have followings mostly in cities near the border (Northern Border that is). To me the smaller the venue the better, and I am somewhat envious.Bruce Rioja wrote:Cheers, Sean. Strange that in one week I a Canadian for the first time in many years got pumped up to see a live gig by a band formed in Bolton, and you a Brit experiencing the same over a Canadian band. Hope you enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed the Buzzcocks.

How will I ever get to describe this gig in terms that do it justice? Utterly, utterly superb. When a band that clearly don't need the cash find themselves squeezed onto a stage that can only just accomodate them in front of 400 people who've only paid £15 a pop, what motivates them? Sheer professionalism and pure love of the job, clearly.
Two sets, 8:00 til 9:10, then 9:30 til 10:45, of pure brilliance. Everybody's favourites were played, jamming chucked in to boot.
I can't believe that I got to see these guys in a place so small, or "happy bunker" as Downie described it.
fecking hell. Amazing. Astonishing. In my top five gigs of all time. Wow. Bloody hell! Really!

I know they like to play smaller venues, but considering some people will have seem them in venues of 60.000 to see them in front of 400 people is pretty awesome.Bruce Rioja wrote:How will I ever get to describe this gig in terms that do it justice? Cheers Sean, I couldn't get the grin off my face. The only downer (if there could be one) was that my brothers were late in picking me up and we missed the first 10 minutes. Of course, in that 10 minutes they'd already played Courage (for Hugh MacLennan), a song that I'd crawl over hot coal to watch them play, but hey-ho!

They couldn't get shut of me, I refused point blank to budge - what you need is for a big push by 15:00 at the latest.General Mannerheim wrote:they've sent me home - she has stayed though! probably get called back in a bit?
thanks for your messages tho!
Check that everything's fine and dandy.
Spend a couple of hours passing the sick bucket.
Then you'll probably get told you're in the way and that the missus and baby need some rest, which whould take you neatly round to "beer all round".
Fingers crossed General.
