This lunchtime i went to the octagon for the third 'Poetry on a Plate' event. The cast from 'the enemies within' which opens next monday and runs for only a week, read a selection of T S Eliot. Was great.

Heads up for those who, like me, admire Margot Leicester's work - she's in The Enemies Within. And, also, so is an actress called Barbara Peirson - who is simply fantastic, one of my favourite actors ever, who rarely gets up to the north, and Barbara Marten who played the lead in Arthur Miller's 'Broken Glass' up here two years ago. This is a very tasty cast. I saw an extract from the play at an event a moth ago - very moving. It tells the story of the 1984 miners strike in the words of the strikers and their families and got raves from the Mirror to the mail to the Guardian to the Telegraph when it ran at the Young Vic 25 years ago.

David Thacker directs and the production then goes to Sheffield Crucible.

For those who don't know they're a good Hard Rock band from Northern Ireland and supported AC/DC on the European leg of their recent tour.

It was one of the best concerts I have seen in years. The lead singer has quite a unique voice and it transfers well from Studio to Concert Hall. I would recommend 'Everyday Demons' as a stocking filler this Christmas. Go. Buy. Enjoy.

For those who don't know they're a good Hard Rock band from Northern Ireland and supported AC/DC on the European leg of their recent tour.

It was one of the best concerts I have seen in years. The lead singer has quite a unique voice and it transfers well from Studio to Concert Hall. I would recommend 'Everyday Demons' as a stocking filler this Christmas. Go. Buy. Enjoy.

Sounds good. Shame I'm down in the smoke, would like to have seen that. Your post drove to me to read it again, and whilst browsing Wikipedia (as I spend far too often doing) I noticed the Frank Turner song (I knew Prufrock before he was famous), which introduced me to the poem, and shares influence in my user name is mentioned on the wiki page. A song the video for which I later was in. I'm almost famous! Hadn't read any Eliot for a while, might pop to the library tomorrow. Have you ever read Prufrock's Pervigilium (I think is it's name), a part of the draft Eliot edited out? I've never been sure where to find it. I'm sure it must be online, but I can't stand reading literature on a computer screen, it doesn't go into my head properly.

Pretty pricey cocktails, but bottle of beer wise, it's no dearer than anywhere in town. Obviously it has fantastic views and the dim lights mean there's barely any reflection on the windows, thus not hindering your views. Get there as early as you can, as they tend to ' give it the old, 'guest list or residents only' later on the evening. That said 2 of you, should be fine (I take it the other is a lady freind? in which case dig deep for a champers cocktail, £11 ish)

Cheers, yeah I think we're heading off sometime between 6-7 I think, but we might just run into the post-work crowd? I'm not sure. I've been in an apartment up the tower before, the views are pretty good indeed, I think this particular flat-dweller had the right idea facing North so you can't see Old Trafford.

Town should be quieting down until the 'revellers' come in by that point, as early finishes on a Friday means that most will be being dragged home by the missus or going home to get ready for going back.
