Saw the game and thought that Web was being quite the wanker out there. Still Liverpool's 2nd half performance clearly topped Webb's performance.FD wrote:Anyone else see the game?
Just how bad was Howard Webb?
If he's the best the league has to offer then we're all doomed.
Gerrard looks out of shape and as soon as his legs went so did the entire team along with him. Nice to see Johnson finding the net again though.

Normally the moment he's ran into the penalty area....seanworth wrote:Saw the game and thought that Web was being quite the wanker out there. Still Liverpool's 2nd half performance clearly topped Webb's performance.FD wrote:Anyone else see the game?

Bloody knee jerking know-nowt.
Why should I be careful? A lot of football fans who phone in to 606 and its regional equivalents are quite clearly morons. A lot of people who talk football on the internet are quite clearly morons. Doesn't mean we don't stand up for their rights, or exclude them from anything we do.seanworth wrote:Be careful now blurred, remember you represent these charlies as you call them.
For what it's worth, I hold a lot of modern society in contempt, not just football fans

Finding reasoned, rational and informed debate is quite hard to do, and phone-ins are not the place to do it - they live and die by the easy soundbite, pigeonholing of ideas and reduction of complex issues down to 60 second bursts that can hold the listeners' attention. They're always black/white and allow for no shades of grey whatsoever: Rafa In/Out, Refs Great/Useless, Technology Good/Bad...

Yes I did and what a blatent penalty he missed in the first half, I know it was "Mr so Easy to Fall over Gerrard" but even so it was a 100% penalty and would have changed the game. Mind Liverpool did lose there way in the second half.FD wrote:Anyone else see the game?

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

That usually means "a lot of people who talk football and don't have "our" point of view."blurred wrote:A lot of people who talk football on the internet are quite clearly morons.seanworth wrote:Be careful now blurred, remember you represent these charlies as you call them.
It's fairly difficult on a phone in, to get enough time to get everything you want to say, said. So regardless as to whether you could for example, construct a wonderful 60 minute show to explain in well thought out detail why Rafa isn't right (or Megson for that matter), you're only going to get a couple of minutes generally, unless the phone lines are quiet. I'd suggest that's not the fault of the individual, but the format of the show - which I think is what you're saying too. The fact that it comes across as "he's got to go because our recent results are crap", because that's all the person has time to say, doesn't in itself make them a moron.

No Blurred is right on this one. There are a lot of morons who discuss football on phone ins or the internet. Which is why this forum is good because there are relatively few if any.Worthy4England wrote:That usually means "a lot of people who talk football and don't have "our" point of view."blurred wrote:A lot of people who talk football on the internet are quite clearly morons.seanworth wrote:Be careful now blurred, remember you represent these charlies as you call them.

But if you'd like to see an example of a "gaggle" of morons discussing football (what is the collective term for a group of morons?) just flick over to the BN forums. There is more than enough evidence there!

Aren't these phone ins usually almost immediately after the game? I always (well sometimes) find it interesting looking at a game thread during, immediately after, and then a day or two later. There aren't half some drama queens, but that doesn't mean they are morons. As a sports fan, we all get overly emotional at times.BWFC_Insane wrote:No Blurred is right on this one. Nope, plenty of people have different opinions to me and I'm not so arrogant as to suggest that I'm right about absolutely everything, especially where a lot of it is a matter of opinion as opposed to fact, anyway. You're perfectly entitled to have a different opinion, providing that you can back it up and that it makes sense. People have the right to question others' opinions, and if they don't stand up to scrutiny then they fall into the aforementioned 'moron' category.Worthy4England wrote:That usually means "a lot of people who talk football and don't have "our" point of view."

I agree the format is crap, but I disagree that you don't get the time to make your point. Even if you get 30-60 seconds uninterrupted airtime, that should be plenty to get your point across and make some sort of coherent and logical point about your views (albeit not the full singing and dancing version). Except people don't. It's the same on the net - people would rather post a short sentence or two about 'Megson Out' than bother to put the effort in to explaining their reasons behind their view. Those who don't bother to explain get lambasted for being morons, those who can explain in a reasoned fashion fall into the pile of people you disagree with, but at least they have a reasoned opinion.
These charlies are being proven right at the moment aren't they. Where does that leave the ones who want him to stay?blurred wrote:That's where your problems started.
