I love the fact that people have had their wits about them to throw their weight beind something, anything. It might not be a mega popular song, it might not be the right song. I'd never bought a rage song before, but I got one now. The anti-reality or anti-manufactured feeling could've been lost if everyone had supported different bands, but social media now makes it even easier to say "if you don't like this, do this". Great

All this paddying by Cowell and Cole is pathetic. Spoiling the kids dream my arse. The kids had his dream placed on a fecking pedastal for him. I know a lad who's about 30. His band's talented as owt you'll hear on the radio. But for whatever reason, he's not quite made it and he's having to seriously think about getting a real job. That's someone who's missed out on his dream. This Joe nice person is 18 ffs. He's got the rest of his life to go out and score number 1 hits if he's talented enough. And if he's not, then I won't shed a tear that I've starved him his day in the sunshine.

And even worse. Respected entertainment journalists who chuckle by the watercooler that the buying public are doing it, have come out and voiced support of x Factor's contender, condemning the people who bought the record - all because they couldn't sell their shitty papers without the juicy 4 pages worth of goss Cowell feeds them.

Rant over

It only bloody worked
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Cheese wrote:You obviously don't get your music from the right places. There are plenty of extremely talented bands out there writing articulate songs. They don't get any recognition though because the charts are full of reality tv stars, with the promotion of them being based on their image and celebrity status rather than the actual music they make (if you can even call it that. to me it's basically karaoke).

As for Rage Against The Machine, they haven't re-released the song. The campaign was started on the internet without their knowledge.
Sorry oh mighty one, what bands am I missing out on then? Obviously you are right though and the reason they don't get recognised is because the charts of full of the songs that PEOPLE HAVE BOUGHT BECAUSE THEY LIKE THEM AND THINK THEY ARE GOOD! :)

As for Rage, they might not have re-released it themselves, but they sure as hell didn't mind it! It's funny, Tom's band Audioslave sorta died on it's arse after the debut album (the two released after were pretty poor) and suddenly Rage are back together? Or are they? I wonder why they split up only to reform? Hmm...

It's good that the angry mob managed to succeed with their sabotage, now if only they could all put their minds to something that actually f*cking mattered.

LOL sorry LK!

Also, as admirable it is that they are donating sales to charity...what choice did they have?

They had NO choice but to donate it all! They are already well enough off so it made it an even easier choice really.

Fair play to them for doing it, but I don't see it as "noble" at all, they had to do it.

I love the song and the album it's from to be honest, but this all leaves a very very sour taste in my mouth.

Well don't. Hopefully next year the public can get behind some new music, but everyone's been so downhearted after cowell dominating the xmas charts for the last few years, nobody saw a point.

Don't feel sorry for Cowell, Cole and this year's pointless little prodigy.

End of the day, Cowell is getting too powerful - find a national newspaper backing RATM. They won't. They know his show fills columns and sells newspapers to a hypnotised and blinkered public who if they gave half as much of a shit about reality tv as they did about real issues we'd be a really dangerous and motivated country.

Just been talking about her at work!

I came to the conclusion, that I still would, even at this minute

Aye, it's a shame when the pretty ones die before making a sex tape. Maybe there's still time.

30 seconds in the microwave should see to it, if it's 'too late'

Anyways...

Aren't RATM on Sony?

Oh well - something exquisitely amusing about toys being thrown out of the pram because someone lost a popularity contest.

Chins up, people. It may seem like X Factor and its ilk will last forever, but it won't - same was said of Big Brother.

Generally speaking, times of recession bring better music from thoughtful artists - and it doesn't really matter if they don't "shift units" like the karaoke winners (I've just discovered that the other bloke was covering Miley Cyrus!! Miley f*cking Cyrus!!!)

(Not that I have anything to plug myself... )

Aye, doesn't that mean the winners of this particular "battle" are, and always were going to be, Sony?

Indeed. As Charlie Brooker put it, rather than raging against the machine, you're actually raging within it.
