Portsmouth AGAIN

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Good. The less money that man has to piss down the shitter the better. His win record pales in comparison to the amount of money he's spent and achieved only average sides. How he's got away with it over and over is ridiculous.
I am sure that I read a few years ago that whilst in charge of West Ham - (about 7 years?) they had 140 different players in the squad.

Maybe somebody could check on that - if true it says agreat deal.

And apparently the rate of people turnover did not sow down when at Pompey first time round
What goes around may still come around

Pompey have been served an HMRC winding-up petition according to the BBC.

That won't happen. The tax-max, the debtor of first call (ie, he gets his money before any other debtor) will give oodles of opportunities & hold discussions & negotiate terms for months before he gets heavy.

If the club TO AVOID PAYING OTHER DEBTS go into Administration it's the usual -10 points & start again Cyril. In ntheir case that'll mean the drop, which is entirely likely anyway. They'll try to do a Leeds and jump in advance if that looks inevitable, so the points come off THIS season & not next.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Bolton in third relegation spot = 3 teams going down.
West Ham in third relegation spot = 2 teams going down.

Feb 10 is when the hearing will take place, apparently.

Way I understand it the football debts have priority, so the HRMC usually get screwed over in these things anyway?

Think we all suspect their players wont be paid tomorrow.

Deduction in prem is 9 points, not 10, but otherwise Bobo has it bang on I think.

If it gets to the tax-man demanding his payment they will, will, will take priority. It's just how it works.

If it can be kept out of there & kept in football, then clubs get their money & players theirs before they start paying the local bakery & joiner & the like.

But the tax-man will take his cut first.

I think with Leeds the taxman took his bit before the local ambulance service and the police etc...all about the penny in the pound offer from Bates IIRC...

So are pompey gonna go under or what? If they were hit with a 10 point reduction that would be bloody useful for us!

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious that that.

Right, this requires a finer mind than mine, but aren't Pompey in breach of contract here? Can we not just ruck up and plunder their better players here? Anyone?

I think if they don't get paid for three months they can just up and leave, like Riga did.

I may have made that up though.

Don't a lot of contracts have limits after the pay date in which they can still pay without breaking the contract. I know on my rent I have a weeks breathing room. Similar idea to that?

Nope. Sorry, not quite that simple. I think we covered this last time they failed to do this.

It all depends on their actual contracts of course but firstly, even if late, they HAVE (& I assume WILL) got paid, even if a few days late. That's not good & poor practice but you can't claim constructive dismissal for that.

A person could apply for breach of contract, but that would look on the impact & the malice involved and also the duration of the delay. The impact is negligible to multi-millionaires. The delay is short and it's not malicious, but due to business problems.

A player is welcome to try, but they wouldn't win the case. It'd be mighty embarrassing though.

I understand that they run 2 payrolls, one for the mortals (admin staff etc. etc.) which HAS been paid and one for the elite, (which has not). So at least the ordinary employees are getting their income ... for now.

On the bigger picture, this is the 3rd month from the past 4 that they've failed to pay them & this months is particularly embarrassing as they are very publically trying to get a loan to allow them to pay it & that loans getting delayed. It was due so they could pay on time, then due for tomorrow & now due today ... showing no-one now is happy to lend it to them.

The decision (quite rightly) that their TV money for the quarter will be paid to clubs they owe money to rather than to Portsmouth must be a massive blow to them. (It's a bigger blow to the small, non-football debtors though ... the local joiners & carpenters, cleaners and caterers and the like).

The taxman is on their tails & this manipulation by the authorities keeps them from getting to that money first. They'll take a dim view of that & my advice to anyone is not to p!ss-off the taxman if you can help it. They have a tendency to sulk.

Unless someone comes in very quickly and brings some real cash in they remain in dire straits. I think they'll go into administration this year .... this season in fact if they get 10+ points clear of relegation (which they won't) or once they know that they are to be relegated, so to take the 9 point hit THIS season.

I do, genuinely think there's a chance of them going bust & bust big this time. Their fire sale won't cover their debts and they could well slide a couple of leagues if they survive at all.

The thing which stuns me is that they bought Glen Johnson from Chelsea on an HP basis, sold him for an enormous profit & they were allowed to do so without clearing what they owed Chelsea. Amazing.

I hope they enjoyed their day out at Wembley 2 years ago. Good old 'Arry !!

Thanks, Bobo. Just one thing though. Didn't Ken 'Beardy c*nt' Bates try something similar at Leeds and get had over for it?

Yep .... & that's got to offer some hope to them trying to manipulate the situation.

IIRC tho, both Bates AND Leeds had form for this & so that helped to showthat they were doing this for that reason.

I can't see how Portsmouth are staying out of administration as they continually pay their players late. There must be some very strange definitions in the Uk these days, I always thought that if you could not pay wages you were by definition bancrupt and hence had to go into administration.?

Anyone know the legal ruling on this??
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I wouldn't fight you in court on this, but my understanding is that if their assets are still worth more than their debts then they're still solvent, cashflow problems aside. Then you get into the whole area of player values being subjective. Then again, never mistake the economics of the madhouse on which football operates with the laws of the land to which the rest of us have to adhere.
