Benitez .... prick

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

It seems they have signed perpetual Wenger target Chamakh on a pre-contract deal worth £25 million:

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Li ... 85677.html

Now, this seems insane. Committing that much money to a player you'd get next summer, when you're not even sure you'll make the Champions League?

But they haven't spent that much, have they?

A signing-on fee that "could be as much 12million" - but probably isn't....

And the rest on his wages over the course of five years (and that'll include all his bonuses and such).

H. Pedersen, your life would be greatly improved if you took one piece of advice:

Not everything that's printed in the papers is true, and their headlines are often deliberately misleading.

Now, the shouty headline of Liverpool agree £25million transfer deal for Chamakh I admit does sound very exciting. Except when you actually read the piece, which contains the following nuggets:
offering a big money pre-contract agreement they expect the player to sign before the end of the month
It could cost them as much as a £12million signing on fee, and a contract in the region of £60,000 a week, which would amount to a massive outlay approaching £25million over the course of a five year deal.
the Anfield club is waiting for his signature
So we haven't actually signed him, nor does anybody know the terms of the deal, if it exists, and if it does, it would require a signing on fee of £12m for the player, which would eclipse just about any signing on fee ever paid to any player ever, which makes it highly dubious.

But then 'Liverpool interested in player, as are other clubs, may sign him' doesn't make as good a headline for the tabloid generation than claiming we've spent £25m, which we haven't, and even if we had it would take us five years to spend it, and that's if he stayed for five years and didn't move on, and that's if the Mirror's guesses are correct.

But if I took that attitude, I'd have fewer opportunities to call Benitez a prick . . . how will that "greatly improve" my life?

By ensuring that times you do call him a prick are well verified and hence difficult to refute, as opposed to randomly calling him one based on tabloid speculation.

There are enough chances to do it based on reality - you don't need to throw in made-up stuff.

There is huge wisdom to your words, but this is Benitez we're talking about. No rhyme, nor reason & certainly no requirement for verification is required, surely ??

Still due their late, flakey penalty, I fear. Though, to be fair Dowd;s resisted so far & diving Stevie Me's off (he's a liar & a cheat, you know), so there's hope.
BBC Radio 5 live's Mark Lawrenson: "Yes, there would be calls for Rafa Benitez to leave if Liverpool lose tonight."

1-2 "Result", in more ways than one.

Benitez Out !!!
BBC Radio 5 Live's Mark Lawrenson: "It cannot go on for much longer. There just hasn't been any improvement in performances - if we say average, we're being kind. I'd probably need an hour to discuss what went wrong tonight for Liverpool. Five or six of that team tonight simply aren't good enough."
