Grilled pork medallions, potato wedges, some sort of flavoured fritters and a side salad. Liebfraumilch(sp?) for the wine, which ,at the price, is excellent in my view. All very nice and topped off with coffee and brandy. Do nicely for me.

We should all remember our essential fruit intake on a Sunday. Here's how.

If I said I'd had Flamiche and bit of Ribera Del Duero tonight you'd think I'd been shagging Arsenal's youth team. Au contraire, it was leek pie and a cheeky Spanish red.

Now where did I put that bottle of Henri Lansbury Cognac?

Wife knocked up a Stilton cheese-bake with mushrooms this weekend. Twas truly delicious. You may know or already do this, but the recipe:

Fry the mushrooms in garlic butter till brown. Add a cup of double cream and stir in (this was for four, so less cream may do). Add the grated Stilton and blend it in. Pour into a dish, sprinkle more grated Stilton on top and pop under the grill to crisp. Simple, but boy, that taste. :D

Just back from my French chums' house where I was initiated into the delights of cardoon, crosne, Swiss chard and Cambodian green peppercorns for the first time (and oysters for that matter). All most excellent, as was the three points we always seem to get when I bugger off on holiday.

Here's a picture of crosne.

Image

Looks a bit like a basket of maggots from that picture, but they taste like white turnip, if you ever come across them.

Irish stew.

Entirely coincidentally - I made it last night then realised the date this morning. I'm no plastic Paddy.

However, my dinner guests will be impressed. It's got Guinness in it and everything.

:drink:

I'm drinking a cold Cava at this moment. Next door the root vegetable soup is starting to simmer (not my creation this time)... the Cava will do fine...

Pasta puttanesca with an Italian red, medium bodied, to follow...

A cheese course... the blue is dolcelatte...... will be the remains of the red, to horrify L Kangana, no sweet white wine in the house...

But hey... I'm tired, the day's seemed long... Nice, slow evening will suit...

Missus bought a Cava from the co-op at the weekend, half price at £6. Better than any Champagne we've had in our gaff this year, including the posh stuff we've kept since moving into the house.

Tonight she's whipped me up a Gordons G&T with Lime, never tried it before, think I can get used to it!

Exactly the one I'm drinking myself... Nice... All G&T should be served with lime, in a long glass, absolutely stuffed with ice, as the perfect start to Friday night...

What day is it???
