Took a little longer to get around to it than it should've done, but a great watchGeneral Mannerheim wrote:seriously, promote Dead Mans Shoes to the top of the list!CAPSLOCK wrote:Checked quality of Crimson for a watch tonight and its looking good
Felt a little let down when I saw it was dubbed - odd really cos I'd have previously said I'd prefer dubbing to subs
I'll get back to you - Crimson 2 is slated everywhere I look, so thats not happening
Then I've got Prophets and Dead Mans Shoes 'queued up'
Thumbs up

i fookin love that film! so dark and brutal, but cant think of another film where i enjoy the justice so much, you wanna reach into the screen and hurt the bastards yourself sometimes! I love all Meadows' films actually, but this is the best! - my missus is friends with Jo Hartley who plays the mother of the two boys at the end, she is also Shauns mum in This is England (a sequel of which will be a four part tv series, itkCAPSLOCK wrote:Took a little longer to get around to it than it should've done, but a great watchGeneral Mannerheim wrote:seriously, promote Dead Mans Shoes to the top of the list!CAPSLOCK wrote:Checked quality of Crimson for a watch tonight and its looking good

I went last night. It's an amazing 'experience' - the effects are incredibly effective and involving - but the whole thing is almost ruined by how implausibly preachy and childish the storytelling is at times. Only almost though - still definitely worth going to see.Athers wrote:Went to see Avatar in 3D last night.
Visually - obviously it's fairly epic being so long in the making and with advanced technology. The 3D is a little strange at times, it didn't seem to be right now and then but for the most part it was good.
Mythology of the aliens..not too bad. Felt like it could have been lifted straight from an episode of Stargate.
Storyline is pretty standard and predictable though, an evil human corporation driven by profit looks to displace indiginous population sitting on valuable resources.
In many ways it reminded me of a Bruce Parry programme from the Amazon where the loggers are intent on cutting down the trees and sacred ground of tribes...
Oh and nice to see Michelle Rodriguez branching out and playing another tough chick!

Anyone who hasn't seen 'The Lives Of Others' should make the most of the fact that it's on iPlayer at the moment, having been shown on BBC4.

Seconded. The insidious vileness of stalinist versions of socialism exposed - albeit with a slightly sentimental ending...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Anyone who hasn't seen 'The Lives Of Others' should make the most of the fact that it's on iPlayer at the moment, having been shown on BBC4.

I watched ‘Entre Les Murs’ (The Class) last night on sky – brilliant film, winner of the 2008 Palme d'Or.
Some seriously quality acting going on, especially from the students – you forget its a movie at time and it really feels like your sat at the back of the class! Very well done.

Just watched that there 'Wanted'. Tries to be a cross between the Matrix, and Fight Club. Doesn't quite manage it, but is quite fun, and ludicrously cool. Angelina Jolie is amazing as ever. I'm not sure if anyone even knows whether or not she can act, it's hard to pay attention.

Whenever I see her, I can't get John Voight out of my head. She looks (unsurprisingly perhaps) just like him. And she can't act. So, a bit sh*t for me really when all's said and done.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Surprised you don't rate The Lives of Others, General. I'll give The Class a watch sometime...General Mannerheim wrote:Yeah or you could go and watch some grass grow?William the White wrote:Seconded. Wanted has been mentioned earlier in the thread - it is one of the most ridiculous films ever, but still somehow strangely enjoyable!? incredibly violent too - gotta love the human shield!

C'mon man - either it did or it didn't! Please don't tell me you speak with an upward inflection at the end of every sentence.
but did or didnt what? - it started off alright, thought he's a good actor, thought this interrogation scene is interesting, thought that official was a bastard... but as it went on i became dozy, and i tried more than once, and i did finish it eventually, but i was glad when i had, because it was boring.
