Much ado about nothing.

The only violence will be from the tree-huggers, who are just desperate to let the world know how great they are protesting (and, therefore, giving the EDL more publicity) and making as much noise as they can.

EDL and t'other mob are both boring, the media are building this up to be some kind of WWF Smackdown. Where really it'll be like the football, with millions of coppers everywhere trying to arrest people for not letting them push them around.

I'll be at a wedding in Lostock, getting s**t-faced, sounds much more fun to me.
Troll and proud of it.

Another question I have is, who is picking up the bill for this protest? Given the loss of earnings it will cause to town centre businesses and the increased costs in policing, roadsweeping etc etc?

The wife went shopping in Bolton this morning; says it looks like a giant building site. Mobile toilet blocks and wire fencing everywhere. Looks like te polulance have got the "keep away" massage as town was full of shoppers and about 16 taxi-firms won't be operating before 6-pm tomorrow.(source-Bolton News). Add the police time and the bill could be enormous.

Well my mums not happy about it, not gonna be able to do her shopping and get a coffee in town tomorrow. And if it upsets my mum it upsets me.

In all seriousness though I signed a petition against the EDL holding their rally in Bolton, but I do think that the Anti-Facist protests are actually going to make things much worse. If we just left the EDL to air their views tomorrow I still believe that anyone with a working brain would see straight through their horrible agenda. As it is though they get even more publicity and a fight (which is what they want, if we're being honest). It is depressing though having this happen in my home town, hopefully the town can show its faith in multiculturalism and reject bigotry. Lets hope sanity wins.

I hope they start their rally around the old Arndale (is it Shipgates or something these days?). Then move up Newport street (avoiding Le Mans Crescent and the Town Hall, they look quite good), smashing the pound shops as they go. And if they could make it to that monstrosity of a bridge just near the station, I'd be ever so grateful. And then perhaps jump off, after all their hard work is done.

No, it wouldn't work, LK, as they'd go and borrow James May's Meccano bridge. Then again . . . it was a one-way affair. :)

A third entity has now entered the fray: Rain. Might dampen a few squibs with a bit of luck. A non-event would be a perfect solution.

It's ridiculous. By all means stage a protest, but kill the sodding violence. Clearly some of the EDL lot were there looking for trouble, but it sounds like a lot of it was instigated by the UAF, which completely undermines the entire point.

OK - i decided to attend the rally - obviously in support of Unite Against Fascism. In the end I decided that it was important to express my opposition to the racists and islamophobes.

I'm glad i did. my daughter decided she wanted to come with me, so we both went, with some trepidation, and, certainly, hoping for a peaceful demonstration.

We were on the town hall square for about three hours. The only violence I saw came from the EDL racists who hurled maybe a dozen plastic bottles (full - coke, maybe?) into the anti-fascist group. And a pretty gruesome arrest by about four cops of a woman aged about 30.

What happened away from the square, I've no idea - but i'm glad we went, and expressed our view about the scum blighting our town.

Favourite chant, aimed at the ugly thugs - 'master race, you're havin a laugh. :lmfao:

From the BEN

"Today in Bolton we have seen some small evidence of this protest in the form of flag waving and vitriolic name calling - but we have also seen groups of people, predominantly associated with the UAF, engaging in violent confrontation.

"It is clear to me that a large number have attended today with the sole intention of committing disorder and their actions have been wholly unacceptable. Turning their anger onto police officers they acted with, at times, extreme violence and their actions led to injuries to police officers, protestors and members of the public.

"The police are not and should not be the target of such violence and anger and this protest and the actions of some of the protestors is roundly condemned by GMP and by Bolton Council. Were it not for the professionalism and bravery of police officers many others would have been seriously injured. I would also like to praise the efforts of the EDL stewards who worked with us in the face of some very ugly confrontations."

Seems UAF are the scum to me.

You only had to look at the meat headed burberry wearing thugs shown on the TV to see exactly what the EDL are.

The new football hooligans.

Am sure Danny Dyer was hanging around the fringes waiting to run away.

Bunch of complete and utter tools. Makes me ashamed to come from this country.
