That is my inferral, given what I wrote in the first paragaph. I don't disagree with their stated aim, but I think it is naive to suggest that is all they are doing. They have organised marches in specifically ethnic areas of towns before, shouting islamophobic, not anti-jihad chants. Those against the BNP aren't agaisnt their stated aims, I think we all know the BNP are about more than just promoting British values, that al-qaeda are about more than what they state.
Sounds about right.

I don't disagree with the UAF's supposed aim of unity. But they've got a fooking funny way of going about it.

perhaps - for those of us who were not there - someone could supply examples of the things that were said and chanted from either side.

what - for instance - did the EDL chant through their megaphones? and what did the UAF chant (WtW already gave us an amusing example) - then it might be easier to decipher what message each was trying to get across..

anyone?

I'm guessing here bish, but from the preceeding conversations I'd say:

EDL: "We love fluffy bunnies"

UAF: "Kill everyone who washes".
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

If that's directed at me, if we lived in a state which didn't have a free democracy which negated the need for it, since we don't I don't believe those who used violence under the banner of UAF were justified.
I'm glad I read that twice, after the first reading I was going to make you a captain in the planet hobo's order by strength defence force

I had to read it a couple of times to get round the two conditionals and three negatives. I concluded he was against violence and unsuited for planet hobo.

I agree with your excessively long post, but you pissed me off here... Pretty much says "You're all thick as pig shit, so I'll save it with my two penneth"

You don't HAVE to reply to threads.. You don't even have to read them.

As I said though, your original post was good reading

That's not how it was meant. The debate had turned into a black and white view of x vs y in the extremes. It was supposed to be a light hearted call for perspective, not an attack.

You promised you were leaving this thread alone...

Anyway, glad you're back... so... do you want to see a racially harmonious Bolton, where different communities might work together? Believe me, I'm certainly not saying it's easy to achieve... but, as a way forward, seeing as we actually live with these different communities, maybe best to welcome what each other offers, raher than indulge in hate, don't you agree? I am definitely not accusing you of indulging in hate stuff, definitely not, I've seen no evidence of that, but... You have so far avoided any answer to this... Like, this is the fifth time I've asked, why is this such a problem for you? Care to have a go this time?

I've given this thread a wide steer for a couple of days, but having had a chug through some of the responses, I have an "observation".

People are defending the right to free speech and suchlike, so as I understand it, the EDL chose to exercise their right and planned a rally, after which the UAF determined they were going to have one on the same day in the same place.

Why did the UAF not just have their's on a different day, then both sides could exercise their right to free speech and any "observers" could go to which ever they wanted to and listen to both sides of the debate if they wished?

Let's be clear, the opposing rally was there for one purpose, and one alone, to stop the other party exercising their right to free speech and shout 'em down.

That's not me trying to take one side or t'other. Just the way i see it. "We don't agree with the other party's view-point so we'll try and repress it as we believe we have the moral high-ground."

Always good to see democracy in action.

But, hobo, they can't do it without understanding logistics.... What are you gonna do about it?... like, brain cells needed... And they are feckin dangerous things...

Anyway, back to Garcia Marquez. I remember you had this brilliant interpretation of the Old Man with Enormous Wings... What's happening for you now?

Very, very good points, and, as usual, i find myself close to the heart of your posts, though we've disagreed plenty in the past...

To answer - for me - and i claim nothing in terms of the UAF (of which i am not a member, and i don't even know if they have a membership structure, nor care)...

I know these people chose Bolton deliberately... They are seeking out areas where they think racial tensions are high... they came to our town, this did not originate in our town...

And this is my town, and i was born here, and live here, and i do not want racist agitators invading it...

So, with trepidation, and a little fear, I thought i wanted to defend my town, as much as i could, against these people with a racist agenda picking Bolton, with which they have no connection, by exercising my right to free speech against the hate merchants, on the day these racial agitators decided to arrive...

I think I'm right to do this, to say - you came here uninvited, you came here for no good, I didn't want you, the people of bolton don't need and i'm letting you know that in the only way I can...

You may think i was wrong, Worthy, but i know you'll respect my views, and debate it, if so...
