Come on Tiger, let's make it 5 green jackets. Instinct will take over if he's in the hunt come the weekend.
I admired him very much as a golfer but I've gone off him as any sort of role model. I don't want him to win - Tiger's back and all is forgotten (right) - he needs to pay more dues. I don't think he will win though.
They should make him play under his real name.

Not sure that's correct. His security team have already asked one female attendee, if they were in fact, the stripper, Joslyn James, that was on Tiger's list of pecadilloes.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... James.html

I know this is in the Sun, but it has been fairly widely reported elsewhere.

Don't think it's quite ready to go away quietly just yet...

They covered their backsides by having him generally at 3s when the book opened, it's pretty clear that the money is giving him a swerve, hence the pretty substantial drift out to what is for him, unheralded prices.
Exactly, he routinely starts majors at 2/1.
Yes, but he routinely starts golf tournaments, which he hasn't this year.

Amazing talent though he is, even 5/1 is a ridiculous price for someone who hasn't played any competitive golf for half a year, whether through injury, rest, or 'other'. If Mickleson had had 6 months out coming in to the Masters, what price do you reckon the bookies would make him? A little more than 2/3 points out from his usual starting price, I'd fancy.
So, you'll be confidently laying at 5's

:)

Eldrick or Tont
Both pretty horrible!

If I had the capital to make a sufficient return on it, then yes, I would. Especially as I've just checked on Betfair and you can back him at 6/1! ;)

Seriously though, there are better bets to be had than laying Tiger at that price. Mickelson to win without Tiger is currently around 12/13's which is ridiculous. I've also found myself a massively priced (but still odds-on favourite) that I think's a belting bet.

He's more than double his usual price, is playing Aguasta where he is more dominant than anywhere (except maybe St Andrews) and routinely doesn't play that much golf anyway.

I won;t be backing him, but I don't think 5/1 is a stupid price.

He's always there or thereabouts, granted, but he's only won 1 (in a play-off) in the last 7 years there, though. Mickelson's recent record is better (2 wins, and 3 top 5's in the same timeframe).

Woods can't have forgotten how to play golf, furore or no. I still doubt he'll be there at the finish.

OK, Shaftoe, you're the pro around here. Generally I stick a Tenner on the nose (In the past, of those that I can remember, this has included Els, Garcia, Donaldson (at least twice) and Levet) with a fiver each way on Woods. Generally - Woods has cut short my losses.
£20 of my cash. £10 on the nose and £5 each way on another. Where's it going?

Too much pressure man, I never advise anyone who to bet on, it's easy enough to lose my own money, never mind someone else's

But if you really want me to say, I can only show you back to my picks. Goosen. Ross Fisher (you'll get 80/1 @ Hills now). £7.50ew & £2.50ew respectively, picking someone to place is bad enough, picking a winner is horrendously difficult.

There's a reason you get 20/1 or more on golfers that are in the top 5 in the world, it's golf, and us duffers know only too well how one day you can do nothing wrong, and the next......

Crayons is the TW low man though, we havn't seen his tip yet? Also Hotdog is tipping Scwartzel and he's the golf journo, my club pro fancies him as an outsider too.

Oof, sly dig at Tiger from Ken Brown there when talking about the three oldies going round the crowd signing autographs during the par 3. "they've taken a lot out of the game, but they put a lot back in too, sometimes you've just got to put a smile on your face and sign a few autographs" N1 Ken.

I've narrowed it down to a South African, but the 6s available on Woods is tempting

If he goes round in sub 74 tomorrow, it'll be carnage on Betfair

This whole "he's missed five months of competitive golf action" is a much of a muchness.

Woods plays about 21 PGA TOUR events each year, the 4 majors, 3 WGCs (now 4 including HSBC in China) and about 12 'regular' events - many of which were to please his (former) sponsors - Buick, AT&T.

His usual season starts in February and he plays (from memory) four events before the masters, the Buick (former sponsor), Arnie's Invite at Bay Hill and the two WGCs - Arizona Match Play and Doral in Miami.

So he'll be four tournaments rustier than usual, not "five months" rusty.

He only went and won in Australia five months ago because they paid him Aus $3m to go and sell some tickets - he usually ends his season in September/early October with THE TOUR Championship at East Lake and then The Presidents Cup/Ryder Cup. In December he'd knock off some rust by playing The Target World Challenge (not an official event) as he geared up for the season ahead but he had to sit that out last year as Furyk won because he was having stitches in his lip. If you want to know more about that, read the Police report.

He's one of the favourites.

I hate to say it, but he's Tiger Bloody Woods.

I don't want him to win. More dues need paying, as one esteemed member of this community already stated earlier in the thread.

A new hope of mine for this week is Soren Kjeldsen, good temperament and an odd putting technique. Can't remember if he's long enough off the tee though!

Who won the par3 comp? You can count them out.

Right, which is why his price has more than doubled.

Right - my mind's made up.

£10 Tiger Woods to win

£5 EW Camilo Villegas.

I'm useless at tipping, even when I have been at a tournament from the Monday of the week watching the players practice! For example, watching Boo Weekley practice everyday at Birkdale, I was convinced he was was going to figure, and then it was a completely different story once he crossed the start line.

Strange game, indeed, and I'm in the fortunate position of finding it compelling without having any money riding on it.

One name I don't think I have seen mentioned in this thread is Poulter, and he seems to me to be as likely to do well as any of the names that have.

He's 25/1 alongside Harrington. I just think he lacks that little bit extra.
