Had Westwood had a few breaks early on I think he'd have done it. A few times the ball just died rather than a favourable roll or rolled a few yards further than you'd expect.
But once it was tight going into the back 9 you had to favour Mickleson who just produces under than pressure.
Good viewing but I was slightly dissapointed that those at the top (apart from Mickleson) faded away, leaving the contest more or less dead over the last few holes!

He made a brilliant effort and held up well, but his driving was bit off in the last round. That said, Mickelson produced some amazing recovery shots and he got the putts. He also had nothing over par on any holes. Can't deny the man. His iron play to the greens is exceptional. Great golf and a great Masters. .BWFC_Insane wrote:Had Westwood had a few breaks early on I think he'd have done it. Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
I feel bad for Westy. A lot of people think he choked or capitulated. Never. He was outgolfed by one of the world's best. One day he'll do it back. Be it at a Major or a Ryder Cup or a World Match Play (maybe not in Spain or Arizona, terrible courses) he'll do it. I have faith. St Andrews might not be for him but his comments about rating Augusta as the fourth best chance of his Major this year is promising. I don't know much about Whistling Straits but if he gets into a good run again in the lead up to it (Bridgestone he's done well at in the past) I'd expect him to be up there again. Pebble Beach? Well my money will be on Dustin Johnson
but I'd love Westwood to win it. The sooner a brit wins it (last one was Jackin in 71??) the better. I mean, who in the funk is Lucas Glover? grr it's such a frustrating sport! Not Luke Donald though. He's about as interesting as a pillow.
I've really warmed to Westwood over the past few years, more so than any other European.
On another note I hate Tiger Woods more than ever after that short sharp chat with Pete Costis (sp) just off the 18th. Arrogant sod. urgh. At least he skied his 3-wood on the 13th on Sunday. HAH. Bell end.
Boo Weekley to win his third Heritage Jacket at Hilton Head this weekend!!!!! BOOOOOOO!

He's probably right in his assessment that it's his 4th best chance. Traditionally it's a birdie madness type of course which rewards aggressive pin attacking. I don't really have Westy as that sort of player.
If you wanted a conspiracy theory up there with "the refs are against us" you could say the course was made easier in the last round which was always going to benefit Mickleson and Woods more than the Brit...

I wouldn't say that but he did shoot his worst round on the final day when supposedly the pins were set for low scores!Dr Hotdog wrote:I feel bad for Westy. True, but is a big ask to make history and become the first player to shoot four rounds in the 60s during the Masters.BWFC_Insane wrote: I wouldn't say that but he did shoot his worst round on the final day when supposedly the pins were set for low scores!
He did shoot his highest round but a 1-under 71 did enough to beat all but one brilliant player on the day. I hope he bounces back from this undoubtedly huge disappointment.

Yeah, I'd say much the same.Dr Hotdog wrote:

Not just that interview, which was appalingly arrogant, but everything around the Masters comeback. I mean have you seen that Nike commerical?Dr Hotdog wrote:On another note I hate Tiger Woods more than ever after that short sharp chat with Pete Costis (sp) just off the 18th. Arrogant sod. urgh. Yes but Augusta is a fiendishly designed course - it is risk and reward to the ultimate.Dr Hotdog wrote:.BWFC_Insane wrote: I wouldn't say that but he did shoot his worst round on the final day when supposedly the pins were set for low scores!
You can attack the pins and make birdies - but you also run the risk of bogey or worse.
Every year you get players with nothing to lose and everything to gain taking great risks and shooting 5 under in the last round- but very rarely does that happen to someone in serious contention.
AND THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN ATTACK THE PIN IS TO GET YOUR DRIVE IN THE RIGHT POSITION
(Mickleson wonder shot from the woods was a very rare exception)
And as already stated Westwood - who is normally rated the best driver in the world (not longest) was out of position too often- and that was more than enough to eliminate the birdie chances.
71 was about as good a score as he could have done on the day.
Mickleson was a worthy winner - but the fact that he and Lee were so far ahead spoiled the spectacle
What goes around may still come around

I agree Mickleson's wonder shot was just that, but his driving accuracy on round 4 was only 50%, so I guess it is possible to cope with a few wayward ones in there...bw@bw wrote:AND THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN ATTACK THE PIN IS TO GET YOUR DRIVE IN THE RIGHT POSITIONDr Hotdog wrote:.BWFC_Insane wrote: I wouldn't say that but he did shoot his worst round on the final day when supposedly the pins were set for low scores!

Just picked my winnings up. £11.88 off a £10 outlay. Bleedin' mug's game!jimbo wrote:My each way terms for Kim was a placing in the top 5, which, thanks to his superb charge last night, means I winBruce Rioja wrote:So - have I won? I had a £5er each way on Woods?![]()
Going off that, you should win with Woods, though you'll barely get your money back!

May the bridges I burn light your way
