Where are you going tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Came back to Bolton tonight with my sister to attend an evening with Peter Hook, compered by Howard Marks at the Albert Hall. Erm, fairly odd really!

It got off to a bit of a scruffy and disorganised start; an old documentary about the whole Madchester scene was shown on a projection screen but it was dark and the sound was muffled so it was hard to make out what was going on too well - then all of a sudden it just paused mid-sentence and Marks appeared, mumbled a bit and introduced Hook - who pretty much ignored the thronging masses (I say masses, there weren't too many there, in fact the changed the venue to a smaller room at the last minute) and picked up a guitar before playing through a couple of songs which the sound system initially found very hard to cope with!

Marks and Hook then took up position on two armchairs and had a fairly interesting chat about Joy Division, New Order, the new club he's opened, Tony Wilson etc etc and plugged his new book.
A bit of an interval followed and then after this came the best part of the evening for me; before it started people could write questions onto cards which Marks posed to Hook and there were some pretty funny anecdotes about things ranging from the money that Factory Records wasted to his opinions on Mick Hucknall and at this point the crowd seemed to be warming to the whole thing after the strange start - but then, half way through a question, Marks suggested that the two of them play a song from one of Peter Hook's latest projects Freebass, who I admit I know next to nothing about but apparently Howard Marks has lent his voice as backing vocals to one of their songs.
What followed was Hook strumming away as well as youd expect, while Marks (reading the lyrics from a sheet) shouted and screamed incantations out. I couldn't make much of it out although at one one stage I'm pretty sure I heard him say "God is your uncle, Jesus is your aunty..." or something. There were some pretty bemused faces around us.
Then, they finished, and just walked off with no parting lines or anything, and didn't come back. Up came the lights, a pile of question cards yet to be answered.

So, that was that, interesting in places but I don't know... kind of pointless!

I didn't! Someone else got the ticket for me.
It was at least an unusual way to spend a Monday evening and an excuse for a beer on a school night but I must admit I was expecting something a bit more substantial.

People's faces when they realised that nope, that was definately it, after they disappeared off the stage following the cringeworthy duet were a picture.

Obviously a 3am arrival at the trainer shop wasn't early enough, 40 people were already there (including one lad who'd been there since 3.30 Friday afternoon so he deserves his trainers I think!) I got the last pair of size 12's, result.

Bed time now

Nice one! Want to see what all the fuss is about!

I'm off to play cricket in the sun and then to see James tonight. Nice that.

Actually, these are they. There was a bloke offering £250 up front to people coming out the doors with them. Might hold onto these for a good while, could pay for a season ticket somewhere down the line!

PS- Enjoy James, absolutely marvellous!

Off to Formby. Strange ground where half of the outfield at one end is astroturf making it fairly quick. We played a warm up match on Thursday and the pitch was rock hard making a change from those typical April green tops!

But us bowlers need them early in the season :-)

Played on a lot of grounds in the Liverpool and District over the years, don't remember having played at Formby though.
