St George's Day
I'll be out on the pop from noon onwards, any excuse for a drink, after all
Anything beats St Guinness day anyway, a load of p**sed up anal-passages wearing silly hats and pretending to be Irish

Not to take away from this great day, and your undoubted patriotism, but you do know St. George wasn't English and never even set foot in England don't you? Also Richard the First spent a grand total of two months in England and was French.as wrote:I'll be out on the pop from noon onwards, any excuse for a drink, after all![]()

Well, Gary, it's nice to see flags & events in a border city like Chester where we see the stumpie Cymraeg's constantly blarping on about Dewi Sant, Owain Glyndwr, Leeks and fecking dragons.
Still, for the record Dewi Sant was Irish, Dragons don't exist, Leeks are just tall onions and Owain Glydwr was an English educated rich bloke in the English army and took part in an invasion of Scotland.
While I'm on a rant, St. Patrick actually was a Welshman, so all the green hat wearing Leprachaun hunters may need a history lesson too.
History, eh. "It's just one fecking thing after another"*

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Which just expands my point. Most Patron Saints have bugger all to do with the countries they represent. Saint George is the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia, as well as the cities of Amersfoort, Beirut, Fakiha, Bteghrine, Cáceres (Spain), Ferrara, Freiburg, Genoa, Ljubljana, Gozo, Milan, Pomorie, Preston, Qormi, Rio de Janeiro, Lod, Barcelona and Moscow.bobo the clown wrote:Well, Gary, it's nice to see flags & events in a border city like Chester where we see the stumpie Cymraeg's constantly blarping on about Dewi Sant, Owain Glyndwr, Leeks and fecking dragons.

(that's "yes" in Welsh ... although, in fact, there isn't actually a simple word for "yes", this is what is generally used. How can a language not have a simple word for "yes" ??)
I actually lit the History Boys at a local amateur production and, of course the film is good. Grammar Schools, don't you just miss 'em ?

Funny you should mention it - watched the film last night again. Great film.bobo the clown wrote:Oes.mrplow wrote:Just a guess, but have you been to Theatre Clwyd recently ?bobo the clown wrote:History, eh. "It's just one fecking thing after another"*

And the more we keep supporting it, the more pressure we can put on the government, into making it a Bank Holiday.General Mannerheim wrote:do we really have to have this conversation every year? jeeezus.
balls to the geezer who supposedly killed a dragon, he probably wasnt even real, dragons certainly arent, and neither is god or any of that ol shite.
but today is about England and its patrons celebrating being English.

Aye, old "Coeur de Leon" and "King" John were the sons of the Queen of France and Richard spent all his time at the Crusades whilst John robbed the peasants blind with taxes over here.Gary the Enfield wrote:

Re: St George's Day
No, you're right, but he was a warrior king first and foremost rather than a ruling one. He only reigned for ten years and spent only six months of that in England. Course, he did nip back in time for the weddings of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe.bobo the clown wrote:To be fair, that's not the only thing he spent a lot of time doing !TANGODANCER wrote:Aye, old "Coure de Leon" and "King" John were the sons of the Queen of France and Richard spent all his time at the Crusades whilst John robbed the peasants blind with taxes over here.Gary the Enfield wrote:
