At least celery does not offend basic principles of colour co-ordination...
I think LGM's bird is simply proof of a photoshop creator....
And man cannot do better than the original, One and Only...

I wasn't posting a Kingfisher as some kind of "proof" of a creator - that was your half-assertion - that you went on to dispute with yourself!

Mahler's 1st is fairly good evidence that humans can be pretty damned fantastic - what else? (was that ever in dispute?) :conf:

Just teasing bish... The bird was so beautiful, and you were the poster, it was one of the 'definitive' proofs of a Creator-Designer that we both have heard and, i suspect, mocked...

The rest was just trickle...

at my age (and I suspect yours!) all "trickles" have to be taken seriously!

you're right - I suspect I am probably as dismissive of the classical "proofs" of God as you are. The divine watchmaker (kingfisher-maker) butters none of my perfectly created parsnips...

incidentally -I had a fairly bonkers one, in a similar vein, in my email tray only yesterday that goes as follows...

by an anonymous doctor
A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio... And I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned...... But I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.

He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is... How He spoke the universe into being... How He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire.. . Etc... Etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.)... And I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God's handiwork. I remember so many times thinking... 'How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???'

Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart..how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.

And then I lost my breath. And it wasn't because I was running my treadmill, either!!!
It was because he started talking about laminin. I knew about laminin. Here is how Wikipedia describes them: 'Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.' You see... Laminins are what hold us together.. LITERALLY. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would literally fall apart. And I knew all this already. But what I didn't know is what they LOOKED LIKE.

But now I do. And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)... Here is what the structure of laminin looks like... AND THIS IS NOT a 'Christian portrayal' of it... If you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature, this is what you will see...

Image

Now tell me that our God is not the coolest!!! Amazing. The glue that holds us together..... ALL of us.... Is in the shape of the cross. Immediately Colossians 1:15-17 comes to mind.

'He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible And invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in Him all things HOLD TOGETHER. ' (Colossians 1:15-17)
Call me crazy. I just think that is very, very, very cool. Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin, Paul penned those words. And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together... One cell to another... By the cross. You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything Other than the mark of a Creator who knew EXACTLY what laminin 'glue' would look like long before Adam breathed his first breath!!

Only because your mindset tells you it should be green. For me, it should be red, to highlight the fact that I don't like it.

celery wasn't designed to be eaten - it tastes disgusting.

it was designed for those biology experiments where you split the stem and put half in a pot of red-coloured water and half in a pot of blue-coloured water (and thereby guage who will win the election!)

For fans of The Wire - there is a new detective programme on BBC1 starting next Tuesday BBC1 9pm - called "Luther" - starring Idris Elba (aka Stringer Bell)

6-part initial series...

in one way it is a bit like Columbo - where you know who the killer is at the start.... (and I hate Columbo!)

anyway - BBC says...
As John Luther, he plays a near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.

Elba says: "I'm really excited about playing Luther. He's a challenging and exciting character because he's so complex. While he's capable of great kindness and loyalty, sometimes he steps over the edge of madness – simmering with anger and rage."

Luther is a new kind of crime thriller for British TV. In each exciting and fast-moving story, the murderer's identity is known from the start – focussing the drama on the psychic duel between hunter and quarry, who sometimes have more in common than either would like to think.

got to be worth a look anyway - just cos it's Stringer Bell! (who wasn't the only Brit actor doing a very convincing Baltimore accent in The Wire!)

Currently watching a detective series thing called Blue Murder (which I missed when it was originally aired). I may well have not bothered with it this long apart from the fact it's based in Manchester and the surrounding environs so holds a passing "yeah, I recognise that bit" in various of the scenes.

Felicity Kendal.

I am probably admitting to my lack of taste by saying this, but by some quirk of personality and art deco appreciation (mixed with a mild effect induced by alcohol) I have purchased DVDs of the four "The Good Life" series. Although I take care to ensure that I am under the effect produced by the aforesaid alcohol when I am 'catching up' with unseen episodes I have no regrets in regards to my financial extravagance (about 43 quid in your Sterling money).

Not watching murder, gore and torture makes me feel somewhat out of place in this thread.
