Good idea ... as a caretaker manager, or permanent. I suspect he'd last longer as a caretaker.thebish wrote:ooh - that'd be fun - put little sammy lee in charge!Worthy4England wrote:Dunno, their Coach didn't...FaninOz wrote:For Liverpool's sake he needs to leave now and let someone else lead Liverpool in a recovery, they need a change of leadership. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I don't know why we're all so beastly to him - a quick google of "Benitez blames" will reveal it wasn't his fault. As this news story points out, there's the owners, obviously. And the senior players, and a pitch they had to play on, and the bad luck that forced him to sign a perma-crock... Nothing to do with him though.
Liverpool fans rally around Rafa. Comedy gold.

...Sweet Jesus, this Liverpool thing has got to be a wind up, no? It's hilarious. And in terms of effectiveness it's like asking a bunch of teenage stoners to launch a counter-insurgency. But funnier.
Bless'em. (Patronising tone very much intentional.)

I'm all confused - there's never been such an outpouring from the Capital of Grief, without an actual corpse.fozzy wrote:Liverpool fans rally around Rafa. Comedy gold.

The club seem to be in real trouble money wise and probably can't affiord for Rafa to go as he would cost too much to sack.
Liverpool post £54.9m loss as debts continue to rise
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 668320.stm
The loss was 34% worse than 2008's figure as £40.1m went on servicing the club's £351.4m debt to Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and US firm Wachovia. That's a lot to pay just to service a growing level of debt, that could otherwise go on new players.

I heard, the debt to all parties is approaching £500 Million, which is more than the value of the club... They're bolloxed in a word. The £54.9m figure will be eclipsed in next years accounts as they'll show the loss of Champions League income.FaninOz wrote:The club seem to be in real trouble money wise and probably can't affiord for Rafa to go as he would cost too much to sack.

All things considered and taking into account the clubs' importance to English football and their tremendous history .... I ... for one ... would like to think that this is completely and utterly accurate and they plummet like a stone ... seeking administration in about 18m time.boltonboris wrote:I heard, the debt to all parties is approaching £500 Million, which is more than the value of the club... More likely he'd lamp one first, in 'self defence' and get away with it coz he felt a bit threatened.as wrote:See Gerrard with the Hull fans after the match?

True, dat. According to a roma doc. you still owe about €12m for Aquilani, though i guess that's loose change considering the other factors against you.blurred wrote:I've been saying that for a long time. Worrying times indeed at Anfield.

As with all transfers there was an upfront fee, with the rest to be paid off in installments (typically within a year of the transfer). We gave them a chunk in January and are clearing the balance this summer, as I understand it. At least we're not in danger of activating the clauses where we give them money for qualifying for the Champions League and/or winning it, or the Premier League, I suppose...Verbal wrote:True, dat. Or finishing the season with a modicum of credibility? Was that a clause too? If so then you've 'won' some more.blurred wrote:As with all transfers there was an upfront fee, with the rest to be paid off in installments (typically within a year of the transfer).
