Blackpool make the playoffs!

Although they play pretty keep ball and pass well in midfield that will not be good enough to open up premiership defences and keep them up, particularly as their defence has shipped loads of goals this year. I don't believe that Holloway will change their style of play, so he will therefore need to strengthen the back four and get a premiership standard goalkeeper if they hope to stay up.
Even so I wouldn't want to play them in the first two months of the season, particularly away, as they will win a few of the early games, similar to Burnley, until the heavy defeats start to sap their confidence.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I'm not sure Blackpool FC's elevation to the Premier League will provide enough impetus to give the town a lift. I reckon Blackpool Corporation needs a nuclear attack to get the process moving forward.jimbo wrote:Massive result for the town as well. Just as a pleasant aside, imagine how Mark Lawrenson feels now that Blackpool are in the top flight. It must be particularly depressing for him, given the recent good fortune for other Lancashire clubs such as Wiggin, t'Roverrrrs and ourselves. Meanwhile his beloved PNE and Victimpool struggle on.
You've got to feel for the nice person, haven't you?

Blackpool itself has a belting opportunity to give themselves a good 9 months of £££ in the local economy, but that's all it will be. The club will benefit from the subsequent parachute payments when they go straight back down but I reckon there'll be a fair few weekends over the autumn and winter where the town's usually dead where they can attract a few bums on beds and nights out etc.Zulus Thousand of em wrote:I'm not sure Blackpool FC's elevation to the Premier League will provide enough impetus to give the town a lift. But I'd agree that the locals don't have enough about em to turn it into medium-long term benefit.
Who cares, its football, who cares about Blackpool as a town.hisroyalgingerness wrote:Blackpool itself has a belting opportunity to give themselves a good 9 months of £££ in the local economy, but that's all it will be. It is a shithole, and money has been spent in the last couple of years to improve areas of it, and some parts actually look quite nice. I'm hoping this can help the place improve more and generate more interest around the place. The town needs the lift, and the people need the lift.

There's a seaside place called Blackpool
noted for vomit and blood...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

About March next year will do fine, thanks.

The town of Blackpool get a boost by the club winning the chance of PL football, people visiting the town spending money and B&B's swamped with football fans.
The town of Bolton only benefits in/around the stadium, as away fans either go straight to/from the stadium, or they go on the lash in Manchester and spend their money there instead. So, the benefit of the PL to Bolton, is very limited.
I hope the board are happy, Phil and his fellow bean-counters really did mis a trick moving us near Wigan......

Er, Phil didn't. Hargreaves did, around about the time he awarded his own company the contract to build the place....as wrote:The town of Blackpool get a boost by the club winning the chance of PL football, people visiting the town spending money and B&B's swamped with football fans.

EDIT: Blimey, he'd been on the board a full ten years before becoming Chairman! Blimey, I stand corrected. Sorry, as.
