Holiday Jolidays!
Where are folk off to/have been? Going abroad, or does the credit crunch, good weather up to now mean folk are staying in England's pastures green?
Also if others have been somewhere they could give advice on things to do/places to go/restaurants to eat at?
I'm off to Rhodes avec la famille tomorrow, cannae wait, any tips etc?

Week before last I spent one day and one night in Pisa, then three days and two nights in Florence.
Pisa was nothing special - just a small university town that didn't seem to have a great deal more than its leaning tower going for it (although this really is a bizarre sight when one is right in front of it). I did have a very good meal there though.
Firenze, the flowering city... wow, everything I hoped it would be. Great galleries and architecture, excellent food... only slightly spoilt by being overrun by Americans, many of whom wanted to complain about BA and BP to me.

As for the fish, specifically Rhodes WtW, or the Med in general? Unlike our kid I'll normally try owt food wise, but I've never had the stomach for squid as yet, might have to try that.

Jealous! Loved in when I went for my 21st a couple of years ago.hisroyalgingerness wrote:off to Oktoberfest in the autumn
I know a few people from the region, so I was sorted for tables, but if you don't know anyone (though you must have some Laterooms connections you can milk), I think you'd be well advised to read this and follow the guy's suggestions.

My favourite tent is the Schützen-Festzelt - best quality of food and dancing Bavarian women.

Oh and the next thing I'm looking forward to is the week up in St Andrews, working four hours a day Sunday - Sunday in the players' locker room.

The effort involved just isn't worth the reward. Imagine chewing rubber bands until your jaw aches just to be able to swallow something that doesn't really taste of anything. That's squid.Prufrock wrote: but I've never had the stomach for squid as yet, might have to try that.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Could not agree more... more texture than taste... and texture very hard work... wonder if there's a squid casserole thing that makes them soft and easy and tasty... you are in a place where the fish might well be fresh... the difference in taste is amazing and wonderful...Prufrock wrote:Raki is a bit much for me, Uzo however...Worthy4England wrote:William the White wrote:eat fish!Prufrock wrote:Where are folk off to/have been? I'm looking forward to ten nights in Portugal, and sardines... Mmmm.... sardines.... and bream... and bass... and, actually, more sardines... and tasty reds and aromatic whites and fun greens and sweet brandys, and, best of all, soon, very soon....

Recession has caught up with me this year, was all set to do the Benicassim festival in July but have had to cancel. Saying that I have recently had two weeks in Fuerteventura back end of May! Which sounds extravagant but was handy as I was out of work at the time and it had been booked and paid for ages beforehand. Rubbish island, total arid dystopia! Went to the capital Puerto del Rosario one day, came straight back! Resort (caleta de fuste) is just a purpose built concrete jungle too, perfectly clean and presentable, but just meh. However the hotel was really nice though, so pretty much just chilled out by the pool for two weeks getting fat on the all inclusive.
But certainly fewer trips to the airport this year than many previous – Good job were not in Europe again!
